I actually like this song, even though I've never really liked any of the other Dream Theater I've heard.

It is not my favorite Dream Theater song, but its definitely in my top 5 with Learning to Live, Trial of Tears, Space-Dye Vest and Metropolis, I just love that song, its so amazing.
And no the ultimate Progressive Metal epic would not be this song, but rather Learning to Live :)

I have listened to it maybe three times on the 'live scenes' CD but it didn't do anything for me i'm afraid. Maybe its one of those songs that will eventually grow on you in time if you play it often enough. I'll give it another blast tomorrow!

Hahah, I have those CDs too, I love all of it. It was a GREAT concert,
especially some of the different stuff they throw in. The order of
songs is great too.

I was going to reply with all the reasons why, but then decided to hold my peace about why I don't like this song. It would only make you mad and start a "Yes it is" "No it isn't" war that won't accomplish anything. Let's just leave it that I don't even think it's good music let alone good prog.

I agree. IMO, the question of originality aside, it's even slightly better than CTTE, as the particular sections flow into one another more logically.

I admit, the joining of CTTE's four movement's is at times irrational, but it is still the supreme Prog Epic

Brialliant song. However if you manage to hear the version which is found in Live Scenes From New York, it is a hell of a lot better. Very cool improvisation bit in the middle section as well.
