I've liked all of their albums they've made so far.
Their Tremulant EP is excellent.

It's a fascinating album, although I am not quite sure yet whether I really love it.

With their sounds described as new and uncomparable... listen if you have it to Introduzione, track one on the 1972 album Ys by Il Balletto di Bronzo....

I dont know about that, Relationship of Command is the only thing that At the Drive-In did that even comes close (and it surpasses) anything by TMV. I think TMV's peak will blow the hell out of that album. Listen to just how much the musicians in TMV have matured since De-Loused alone

They sound musically - very Djam Karet(I like them) to me - wicked vocalist(geddy lee) on top - sounds good to me - don't think we've heard the best of them yet though.

It's amazing music when they actually play music. I just HATE that ambient mumbo jumbo they apparently feel obligated to tack on to each song. I finally bought the 'frances the mute' title track single (the one released in europe but not US), and they tacked another like 5 minutes of ambient noise crap onto the song before they actually started playing.

I prefer the music on frances the mute, but I like De-loused better as an album because It brings straight up prog without all the pretentious noise experiments.

By the way... Frances the Mute is probably the most inexpensive album I've ever bought...

I've heard of people grabbing it at best buy for $5.99...

That's how I got my copy.

So far, I've only heard Frances the Mute and short samples of their other stuff. After I bought Frances it didn't leave my CD player for a week. I just reserved Deloused at my library, it should be here in a week or so. The store where I get my vinyls has a 12" picture disc of the Frances the Mute/The Widow single for $12, but I'm not sure if it's worth it for just that one song.

How representative of their work is the track that's available here (Eriatarka)? I've listened to it, and based on that am definitely interested in getting hold of their albums, but I do want to know if I'm getting an accurate sample of their music.

I had some expectations from Mars Volta having read this and other forums for a while. But to my disappointment Fraces the Mute didn't capture me at all. Too psycopatic and going to nowhere, to my taste, and to much incoherent noises. Of course the album is original but the quality of the songs is rather mediocre, it seems to me.

Eriatarka is off De-loused, so if you like the song I suggest getting De-loused first. then, if you're still interested in the band, I'd get their EP, Tremulant, and get the new albun last. Starting off with Frances is not the smartest thing to do when it comes to the Volta.
