Man... But Vinnie Moore is way more of a shredder than Vai! At least from bits I heard (I don't have any of his albums as of yet) he has more of that Malmsteen's syndrome of showing off! They sounded too neo-classical (read: too Malmsteen-like) to my taste, but if you'd suggest me a couple of his (in your opinion) best albums I'd try him again.

For me the band with the best musicians is undoubtedly Gentle Giant; JPW was one of the best drummers in Prog, Ray is one of the most underrated of British bass players, Kerry was a virtuoso keyboardist and vibraphonist of the highest quality, and Gary Green is one of the most brilliant guitar players of any prog band period! And how about all those instrument changes?! Ray alone played recorder, sax, violin, trumpet on stage. And their singing . . . Knots and On Reflection are both vocal pieces that feature dazzling singing virtuosity- and both were performed live on a regular basis. NO CONTEST: GG!!!

I chose Yes (at least their CTTE lineup), but I could've chosen ELP, King Crimson or UK as well - and please, for the love of God, let's not start another Wetton vs. Lake argument!
BTW: where the heck are Rush? Of all the above-mentioned bands, they're the only one that have had a stable lineup for years. And yes, I know, Lifeson is not on the same level as the other two - nevertheless, two out of three is not bad, is it?

Gentle giant, no doubt. King crimson with Bruford, Levin, Belew and F in second followed by Elp and Yes in a split 3. Born in 82 if anyone wondered. The year prog died... :D

Yes with the Close to the edge line up...The Fripp-Wetton-Bruford-Cross King Crimson line up is maybe 2º...thought Cross ( to me at least) is not as good as the rest...still awsome!

Yes, always had good keyboard players. (Even Tony Kaye wasnt too bad)
Then Steve Howe, and Peter Banks, who actually played quite well on Time
And A Word, and then the great Chris Squire on bass, Bill Bruford was my
favorite between the two drummers but Alan White is still awesome too. And
on top of this they have the beautiful vocal stylings of Jon Anderson. You
just cant go wrong with that.

It is difficult to beat a line up consisting of Bruford, Squire, Howe and Wakeman musically. They are some of the most talented people on their respective instruments. On top of that Anderson made nice contributions to songwriting and had an angelic voice. The ultimate prog band.

Dream Theater no question. You might not like them but I doubt any of those bands up there can play a number of their songs. The only band I could see maybe doing it would be Yes. Keyword: Maybe.
