A hard choice between three well known guitarists. This thread wants only one name so I'll go for Pete Townshend.
The version of My Generation on Live at Leeds is as good as guitar playing can get.

Richie Blackmore He can play Prog, Metal, Hard Rock, Blues, Funk, Classical, Indian, Medieval, the best for me, my biggest inspiration and a very underrated guitarrist for me is better than Page, for example.
