...perhaps because others do not??? sort of fits the overall theme of the composition. Pictures at an Exhibition. Each has it's own theme, and melody and were tied together with various several of Promenade. I love the album... adore it actually.. but consider The Gnome to be completely different from... say... the Curse of the Baba Yaga. Same album, some classicial piece different 'songs' in the rock 'adaptation' of Mussrorgsky's composition.

Yeah, Trilogy might have set at #6 or #7 on my list. Promenade would likely be #6... the hairs on my .. umm.. head.. stand up straight every time I put on PoaE. yeah.. I do love PoaE.. so tossing Promenade on there. 6. Promenade/The Gnome 7. Trilogy 8. Lucky Man (great prog pop song EVER done) 9. Knife Edge 10. Abaddon's Bolero... amazingly hypnotic!

Tarkus is way better than the following ones, but they are still great tunes.

I would also like to expand my top five to a top ten
6 Toccata (most 'out there' prog track ever?!) 7 The Endless Engima Pt1/ Fugue/The Endless Enigma Pt2 (might be cheating to include 3 tracks as one but anyway...) 8 Brain Salad Surgery (showing perfectly the heavier side of ELP) 9 The Barbarian (BANG!!) 10. The Only Way ( quite easily Lake's best vocal performance and some lovely piano and organ to make it perfect)

Hey thanks Richard!

The usual suspects: 1. Karn Evil 9, 2. Tarkus, 3. Tank (1st album version), 4. The Enemy God (live version) and 5. Officer and Gentleman (yes, a track off 'Love Beach' - great ensemble playing, Emerson on Fender Rhodes - what's not to like?)

1) The Endless Enigma part 1>Fugue>The Endless Enigma part 2 - thus far the most fantastic prog piece I've ever listened to. And I strongly recommend listening to Keith's 2012 classical version (from The Keith Emerson Band: Three Fates Project) , especially to those who love classical music - mind-blowing! 2) Karn Evil 9 - One more magnificent composition. 3) The Only Way (Hymn) - What a fabulous piece of music too! 4) The Great Gates of Kiev - Who said that ELP don't prioritize emotion in their music? 5) Tarkus - no coments needed at all, words are damn limited, not only emotion wise but whatever be. Frankly it's a lack of sensibility this sort of limitation in a 'Top 10s and lists' thread when it comes to ELP! So I can't get away without 'throwing' my other loved favourites from my favourite band, no wonder that the damn list ordering thing never works well with me : 6) Pirates - perfect to be played with an orchestra. My favourite obviously is that of the 'Live At The Royal Albert Hall' venue; 7) The Three Fates - such a brilliant piano session that I rarely find in prog; besides it features some of the band's trademarks: strong temper coloured with that shining elegance typical of the classical music; 8) Take a Pebble; 9) Jerusalem; 10) Piano Concerto No. 1 (3d Movement); 11) The Barbarian; 12) Knife Edge; 13) Fanfare for the Common Man; 14) Toccata; 15) Promenade; 16) Trilogy.
