Apparently he didn't want to go to the NFC and have to face his brother before the Super Bowl.

We should have had a 2012 thread this whole time, but wow. Why not go to the Niners?

Well this is nutty, I was checkin wiki to see the Lions championship: 1957

With Bobby Layne at QB, who I never heard of, so checked out that page.
Played ball at Highland Park HS, and after they traded Layne rumor is they wouldn't win for 50 years. Which would be 2008...2009 Matt Stafford who played at Highland Park HS takes over the team Shocked

THE CURSE IS BROKEN. 2012 the Lions will win the SB against the Cleveland Browns. Calling it now. History will repeat.
And seriously, that is pretty crazy they went to the same HS and both lead the Lions!

Well dammit, what else do us Lions' fans have aside from starting football threads on prog music websites.  If we had to wait to win the Super Bowl for this simple life pleasure, we would all die of old age.  And many probably already have.

That would just be insane, but hey if they someone can pull it off. Also now we just need a 6-10 team to make the playoffs. AFC West perhaps?

The trend has been bucked this year by a Lions fanLOL but I'll be on it.

2010-11 Packers: 10-6
2011-12 Giants: 9-7
I guess an 8-8 team is going to win the Super Bowl next year.

Anyway, since your team won you're responsible for opening the "The 2012 NFL Thread", JJ.

Snow Pat: if you decide to look in hereLOL good game man. As always, down to the final play and it was a tight game, could've gone either way, a few plays on both sides, plays not made on both sides, it was real even. Sorry for being more arrogant than usual before handEmbarrassed I do feel bad for Gronk and Welker.

Gotta also give credit, Bill and Brady were humble in defeat...some teams (maybe let's say the Steelers, Jets and sadly the Ravens) ALWAYS have an excuse. Always something, I was glad to just hear the words "they deserved it" from Bill.

Congrats again to the 2011 NY Giants. Today was the parade (which was OK) and ceremony at the Stadium, (which was awesome) so I guess that officially ends it! Enjoy, and soon get to signing some key players and fixing some leaks!

Well...they have given Smith little help but the Niners at least did build a team. Agreed on the Jets, their management is just stupid! Also totally off sync with each other. What a crash for Rex as well, that team is a mess.

Ah, well who knows what the f**k these voters think sometimes. Just a matter of time for Bettis, but I know it's hard for fans to accept. Hell, even though I'm not sure if he's deserving honestly, I hate that Phil Simms hasn't been enshrined yetLOL

edit: Final analysis of the year! Not anything ground breaking in their conclusions though...http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/02/06/re-focused-giants-patriots-super-bowl-xlvi/

We could say the same thing about the 49ers and the Jets except that they each have receivers that aren't walking corpses and coaches who try to over manage him.

Bettis was eligible last year as well and was snubbed.  I understood it last year a bit more because they only let Faulk in at RB and he was a all-purpose yardage/scoring monster.  So, I was fine with Curtin Martin and Jerome having to wait a year but they just up and put Martin in this year.  What the hell voters?

Also, just got a breaking news update that makes me extremely happy:
"Report: Steelers Hire Todd Haley As New OC"

Oh, forgive my laziness but I just don't feel like filling another thread, but who's better Eli vs. Peyton? Neither, I think when you get to such a level you can't really rank and Peyton has done a lot with not very good teams.
I just wanna say I think Eli has removed his "regular season question mark" after 08, 09 (ok a down year in 2010) but especially after 2011! He WAS the team in the regular season! And with a pretty poor team around him.

I have no doubt we have 4 more losses without Eli, if not more. Thus no playoff run.

Obviously I pick him over Peyton though because he's my QB! And despite poor teams for his bro, Eli does have an innate ability to just win when it matters. Even back in 05 he awed me with his hurry up offense!
Under pressure, 3rd down, 4th quarter, playoffs he just ups his game. He aint pretty but also has a squirrely way of evading sacks. Probably me being a fan but ya know, I'll take him over Peyton! Why the hell not? LOL

Partially, also I know Parcells was not the...friendliest guy, especially with the media.

You are right about Carter and Brown, total snubs. Was Bettis eligible? Wow, yeah guess it has been that long, doesn't seem like it! Another snub for sure. I love the Bus, and when you're #6 on the rushing yard list not sure how you don't make it. Who knows why some have to wait but all 3 will make it, hopefully sooner not later.

I was pretty surprised Parcells wasn't inducted. If he's not a lock I have no idea what is! I'll admit IDK about Couglin yet but he just took sooo much sh*t despite what he's done I'm glad to see the talk.

Parcells will go into the HOF but I don't think he's a first ballot guy.  I thought his career of living out of a suitcase might hurt him, a bit.  Swooping into towns for a few years, cashing big checks, maybe or maybe not improving the team's record, then going to another town or temporarily retiring.  He will, and should, get in because of his coaching record I just think he should wait a few years.  Jerome Bettis, Chris Carter, and Tim Brown are the ones people should be shocked by.  What the hell is keeping them out?

Good choice? They don't have a single WR and Shanahan is a run first control freak with the offense.

I think the Jets or the 49ers would make a lot of sense for him.

Yup, good choice because they have a solid defense, good run game and you have to assume they'd get a weapon or two, though the Skins border on mentally insane with their moves so who knowsLOL

Phins or Seahawks would be much better though, don't get me wrong. Also I kind of like the idea of him playing the Pats twice a year!

Speaking of which, some great irony that one of Eli's biggest criticisms was his lack of emotion. No bravado, no swagger, he doesn't show any excitement ever. NOW everyone is gushing how he's so cool and calm and unflappable. The ones who wanted Coughlin fired every year are now giving him a HoF jacket and proclaiming his worth. The media make me giggle!

I have got to give my respect to the Giants. They always find a way to win the big games, make the big plays. The Patriots missed some important plays by dropping the ball and Brady was off target on some occasions. It will be interesting to see how the Giants perform next year, and if they can carry that spirit over for a long time...

Well, they can carry the spirit, but while it feels too soon to say it yet...the Giants DO need to fix some things.
What Eli did was magical this year, but I'd prefer him to not have to do it againLOL

If he's healthy I don't see all of that being much of an issue aside from general decline due to age. I'm not so sure he'll be 100% next season though.

Congrats JJ.  Probably better that the Giants won, so the rest of the world doesn't have to listen to the 100,000,000 New Yorkers whining about not succeeding at buying the championship. Wink
