ABBA? |
Hmm, two of them have beards, two of them don't. Floyd where originally called the Abdabs ... damn that's almost an anagram of Abba. And they've never been seen in the same room at the same time .... I think we could be on to something. |

Yes, but I don't remember who it was. I think it was just in the early days, but I'm not positive.
|
Arcade Fire? I guess there were others in the early days. |
You have virtually no chance of getting Bjork removed. The best you can hope for is a move to Prog Related. |
Whoa!! I've never listened to Bjork so won't/can't comment on her. Just answering Henry's post, btw I like Arcade Fire. |
Katatonia and My Dying Bride were both kicked off the site, but that was because of the way they were added rather than for their music (a PMT member added them without their being a vote). Of course, MDB have got back on when they were voted on properly last year.
I'm really beginning to wonder about the Crossover genre, several bands have recently been added that belong in PR at best (Tori Amos, NIN, Bjork). Plus, they now have a tendency to overturn previous rejections, Bjork being a case in point. |
Whoa, Andy - what previous rejections has Xover ever overturned? Bjork has never been suggested or rejected prior to this current suggestion/evaluation/acceptance/addition. |
|
Wrong.
The 2006 threads did not result in an evaluation by any genre team - if there was no evaluation there was no rejection.
The 2009 threads did not result in an evaluation by any genre team - if there was no evaluation there was no rejection.
The 2010 thread resulted in an evaluation by the Crossover team - there was an evalaution against Controversial Artist rules and an unanimous "Yes" decsion was made by the team.
Nothing debatable about any of that.
Sorry chief.
In the meantime, here is a picture of my favourite band.

Dude I think there's a smile on Roger Waters' face. I don't believe I've ever seen that before. EVAR. COOL DUDE.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Okay, done with Medula. It's not 100% quintessential prog, but definitely prog enough for crossover, which includes bands/artists like Supertramp, APP, Tori Amos and used to include Steely Dan (who are still in a prog genre anyway - JR/F). If this is obvious to me after listening to it just once, then I am sorry, but I don't see the basis for so much expression of dismay, other than that maybe these people remember Bjork as the Icelandic pop queen (and having taken a stand would not now like to admit they got it wrong). Since I have never heard any of her other albums, I can't say if she has any rock in her material, but if she doesn't or if Medula was the most important reason to add her, I do have a minor quibble that an artist who has nothing to do with rock has been added. Not that I personally disagree with that because I have never considered the rock part of it as all that important but artists have been rejected in the past for, among other reasons, not being rock enough. So is it because, as Exitthelemming suggested, prog is now considered synonymous with experimental and innovative (the problem in that case being that something that doesn't 'sound' out there but is so in substance may get an unfair evaluation)?
