Topic: The Lamb Lies down on Broadway Posted: November 30 2010 at 18:11 |
It's a masterpiece - probably my third favorite Genesis album after Foxtrot and Selling England. It's in my top 20 albums.

I think this is the best that GENESIS have ever done . Extremely deep and emotional work it includes all Genesis' greatest features + it is more fantastic and magical than the others (I know it sounds a bit stupid and abstract but this is just my opinion )
And IMO this is the most underrated album on PA list ( with ELP's Brain Salad). I don't care about this list I just would like to know how many people adore this work as I do.
I think it should be in top 5 ( I would chose top 3 if I could ) |
I agree with you in a way... I have always thought that this album is underrated ! After thinking very much, I conclude that it should be like the 11th or very near this, so I voted "top 20".

Top 50 easily but not sure about top 20 or better. Disc One is inspired and just about perfect but DiscTwo loses me at times.

The Lamb is in my top 20! I love the whole "Broadway" feel to it. I feel like I'm watching this epic bBoadway play when I listen to it, but for smart people

I do not get this album, for me the weakest Genesis Hackett Era Output, , ... maybe I need to listen to it again, the only problem is I never feel like listening to it ... rather feel like Foxtrott, Wind and Wuthering, ect. ....

Hmmm, this is a tough one.
Despite the length of the album, it still feels...right. I wouldn't want to remove anything from it. It's not perfect either.
You just take it as is, and it's very solid and great. Not my favorite Genesis album, but I would put it in my top 30 or 40.
In terms of overall ranking, I think it's safe to go top 50.

It is a four star album for me.
Probably fifth or sixth in the Genesis pecking order.
Some great tracks but a lot of throw away songs.....
The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging is one example....
I chose the top 50 option...

IMHO The Lamb is the greatest prog album ever made. to deliver four sides of such high quality ( I rate Sides 3, 4 and almost 2 as "flawless" and seamless), many of Gabe's finest vocal performances ("Counting Out Time," "Carpet Crawl," "Lamia," et al.), the band's best collaborative music (instrumentally complete before Gabe even heard it), in a coherent concept (thanks Rael/John) is unparalleled. This album has remained a constant source of awe, magic, and adrenaline for me for over 35 years now. No other album can come close to that kind of resilience (though Novella is close).

The Lamb is the best studio album ever made (Yessongs rates above it) IMO.
My only criticism of it is with the last track on sides 1,2 and 3. The Grand Parade and Chamber of 32 Doors both detract from a great side ending climax. Very good songs but I don't think they belong to this album (both would improve Trick of the Tale). Silent Sorrow is nice for the first 30 seconds but goes on for another 150 seconds after that.
The rest is almost perfect.

I woulnd't know how to vote here, but I did was somewhat disapointed with this album. I didn't really like it so much; sure it's got it's moments, but so many short songs just doesn't make it for me. As a matter of fact, I don't remember any double album that I find totally satisfying, I guess they just tend to get more music than is actually necessary to make it a good album and end up including too much "filler", and in the end they don't flow quiet as well as shorter 1 CD (or LP) albums.
