I think this is the best that GENESIS have ever done . Extremely deep and emotional work it includes all Genesis' greatest  features + it is more fantastic and magical than the others  (I know it sounds a bit stupid and abstract but  this is just my opinion )

And IMO this is the most underrated album on PA list ( with ELP's Brain Salad). I don't care about this list I just would like to know how many people adore this work as I do.

I think it should be in top 5 ( I would chose top 3 if I could Ermm )

S/B in top 20 for me. It contains some exceptional music, but suffers, IMHO, from being too long. If it were just the first two sides, then top 5 easily.

Given the band's comments over the years, then if it had been made in the digital era, it would never have been so long.

I go for the top 50. It may not even be in my own top 50, but "too overrated" is an overstatement.

This. I agree it's possibly the best Genesis album, even if too long, a bit too poppish on part 1, and a bit pseudo-experimental on part 1. Possibly, good decision would be just to use all material for single album.

But- better than a bit sleepy, not enough complex previous Genesis albums, and openly pop-oriented later releases

Queue loads of 'too much filler' comments .
The lamb is top 5 sometimes top one in my book.

There is no filler on The Lamb.  (Only Mint Sauce)

It's my favorite prog album and third favorite album of all time. So I'd put it in the top 5 easily.

Should be in the top of any serious music collection, doesn't matter whether is top 10 or 20... I'd put it in  top 20 surely.

I think top 20. It has some amazing music and emotion and I like the story. For me the album is a bit too long.

Mmm... Top 20, because it really felt like Genesis taken to a new level, which speaks for itself. I don't think that it's THE BEST ALBUM, however, because there were moments which I felt were expendable, and THE BEST needs to be... well, THE BEST. Mind you, I still have to properly get to know the Lamb.

idk, the Lamb is my favorite Genesis album and Genesis is one of my favorite bands. However, I don't think that it's for everyone so I think it's fine where it is.

I would be curious to hear a more detailed response from people who think The Lamb is too long.  I'm curious because it's one of the most common responses to the album, and it's what I always tend to think if I'm away from the album and thinking of it abstractly.  When I am actually listening to it I still kind of feel that way but I can't tell you where I think it goes astray.  I don't know what I'd remove.  I agree that the first two sides feel perfect.  So it seems like it goes a bit drifty in the second half, but where exactly?

Anyway, I'd just be curious to hear the thoughts of others on this.

Definitely one of the top 10 Genesis albums.  Too long?  Too long???  I like it like it like it.

Top 20 for sure, possibly top 10.  I went the safe route in my vote.

Not in the top five of Genesis for me. I think that is in the top 20 in a general prog rok ranking.

I woulnd't know how to vote here, but I did was somewhat disapointed with this album. I didn't really like it so much; sure it's got it's moments, but so many short songs just doesn't make it for me. As a matter of fact, I don't remember any double album that I find totally satisfying, I guess they just tend to get more music than is actually necessary to make it a good album and end up including too much "filler", and in the end they don't flow quiet as well as shorter 1 CD (or LP) albums.

Excellent album but runs out of steam during the second half.

The Lamb is the best studio album ever made (Yessongs rates above it) IMO.

My only criticism of it is with the last track on sides 1,2 and 3. The Grand Parade and Chamber of 32 Doors both detract from a great side ending climax.  Very good songs but I don't think they belong to this album (both would improve Trick of the Tale). Silent Sorrow is nice for the first 30 seconds but goes on for another 150 seconds after that.

The rest is almost perfect.

IMHO The Lamb is the greatest prog album ever made. to deliver four sides of such high quality ( I rate Sides 3, 4 and almost 2 as "flawless" and seamless), many of Gabe's finest vocal performances ("Counting Out Time," "Carpet Crawl," "Lamia," et al.), the band's best collaborative music (instrumentally complete before Gabe even heard it), in a coherent concept (thanks Rael/John) is unparalleled. This album has remained a constant source of awe, magic, and adrenaline for me for over 35 years now. No other album can come close to that kind of resilience (though Novella is close).

It is a four star album for me.

Probably fifth or sixth in the Genesis pecking order.

Some great tracks but a lot of throw away songs.....
The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging is one example....

I chose the top 50 option...

Hmmm, this is a tough one.

Despite the length of the album, it still feels...right. I wouldn't want to remove anything from it. It's not perfect either.

You just take it as is, and it's very solid and great. Not my favorite Genesis album, but I would put it in my top 30 or 40.

In terms of overall ranking, I think it's safe to go top 50.

I do not get this album, for me the weakest Genesis Hackett Era Output, , ... maybe I need to listen to it again, the only problem is I never feel like listening to it ...  rather feel like Foxtrott, Wind and Wuthering, ect. ....

I agree with you in a way... I have always thought that this album is underrated ! After thinking very much, I conclude that it should be like the 11th or very near this, so I voted "top 20".

It's a masterpiece - probably my third favorite Genesis album after Foxtrot and Selling England. It's in my top 20 albums.
