As much as I try to fight the obvious, I must say that PFM have worn me down ... I only know about 2/3 of the bands properly though ... for now ...

PFM are very good, but my fave Italian band is The Watch.

This is great stuff! I love the guitar work in this album.

The one band missing from the Poll or any postings so far (unless I overlooked it) is Semiramis, who recorded a completely mindblowing album in 1973 called 'Dedicato A Frazz'. Frightening, almost proto-metal guitar work and rhythms, smashed up against Genesis/'Nursery Cryme'-era textures. A bit like Biglietto Per L'inferno's first album, because it's raw, dark, heavy but still symphonic and sublime. Hail SEMIRAMIS!

If this argument was valid, I would never have approach any music whose lirics weren't sung ins spanish or italian, so I wouldn't get into anglosaxon prog. Come on, even now I have troubles in understanding most of the english lirics...

I find all these and many other 70's italian albums superior compared to anything released by the english bands. Some people seem to complain about the italian vocals. There are many greats, but no one can beat the beauty and greatness of Storia di un Minuto and Per un Amico.

Museo Rosenbach come in close second, followed by Area and Il Balleto di bronzo
