Three clappies for you. |
No.... There was prog before DT, but there was hardly much prog-METAL before DT (even if there was, it was not so famous) so many metallers got into prog thanks to DT. Also, all of those prog bands before DT, many people got to know them and love them after hearing DT. In fact, many even may have "got over" DT, but it worked as an entrance point.
|
I see your three clappies and give myself two more for a total of five clappies for me,
and also five for Mike R's kickass website.
|
I think that my likning DT deserves to get an extra 5 clappies so 8 clappies for me:

Imagine how much people would not be into Progressive music in general without Dream Theater. |
There was prog before DT you know...

Obviously, but imagine how much young people wouldn't be here without Dream Theater.
Or how popular some of these bands have gotten?
A lot of it owes the commercial success of Images and Words and Awake.

I just got Deadwing yesterday! At this point I feel sorry for DT having to be compared with such a good band!

On the contrary I find PT way more progressive than DT. |

While I would agree that PT is mostly not very progressive (or very good), I have to say: Post-rock!? WTF? They are not even close to post-rock. Please, tell me where PT have a heavy post-rock influence.
