the weird thing is, there ARE actually 4 votes for the No option... what the hell is that? I mean, if you want to go to a random site to make friends, why pick a prog-rock site..... it would be much easier in a pop or rap site... having in mind that we proggers are considered pretentious and snobbish....

Bands I've descovered from this site:
King Crimson
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (knew of, never bothered to listen to their music) Premiata Forneria Marconi Banco del Mutuo Soccorso Museo Rosenbach Quella Vecchia Locanda Semiramis Il Rovescio della Medaglia Can (this is the band that led me to this site) Amon Duul II Ashra Ash Ra Tempel Agitation Free Faust Kluster Cluster Popol Vuh Tangerine Dream Kraftwerk (knew of, never explored their music) Brian Eno Klaus Schulze Edgar Froese Yellow Magic Orchestra Pink Floyd (got me into them after I sampled "Welcom To The Machine") Dun Magma ...and perhaps more. This site also helped me find out who I don't like.
So yes, I am here for the prog :). Edited by Trky_Lym - February 01 2007 at 15:06 |

No!!! Absolutely freakin' not!!!!!!!!! Who gives a hoot about prog?!?!
I am being here because I was expecting young underaged girls (and I rather like young girls ). At first, I couldn't have cared less about the music but I was told they loved prog especially this bald ex-drummer that belonged to a boys band before he had his better days.
So I fell into the trap.
And I stayed.
Still don't care about prog
But I getr loads of underaged girls
Oik Oik Oik The Gubby Little Oik. >>> dirty ol'man Pys Hastings is my mentor.
So Thanks to ProgArchives!!!!!!!

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

Pretty much my story too - when I joined, the site was considerably smaller, so it was easier to chat to those people I hit it off with - as a result, I've made some firm friends around the world, none of whom I've actually met yet, but this is hopefully to change this coming summer.
Whereas on this site they're promoted to the Admin team |

When I first visited the site (somewhere in 2004) I was really interested in having found such a web-site. I discovered lots of bands for which I had no clue about.
Actually, I re-discovered prog here after a huge break.
Recently, there were a lot of inclus-ion of bands ranked in proto-prog and prog-related which was somewhere a deviation for me.
Some of them are beloved bands of mine for more than thirty years (Heep, Purple, Led Zep, Santana etc.). So, since they are included, I like to talk about them and review their work as well.
So, today, I consult the site for non-prog bands as well.
Cheers.

Came for the prog, stayed because this site is full of good folk with interesting things to say (mostly about prog, yes ... but also about non-prog music and non-music topics).
Most other web forums are filled with what I will politely call "sketchy people". |

Of course I come here mainly for the prog.
But what is so wrong about making friends with people on the Archives and having discussions with them? The main site is about the prog for me, but the board (and the VR in particular) is about the people |

They promised me cookies, so naturally I joined, I'm still awaiting my fist cookie, but my brother told me you have to allow cookies on your computer to get them, so I probably have to reset my firewall to allow for the cookies to get through.
hope they are langevingers,. love them with a nice cup of tea.

I am certainly here for the prog!
I like to see what other people think of the music I like, and I like to read reviews on new bands and albums, so I know what to add to my collection next - or what to steer clear of! I find this site excellent, informative, friendly and very useful.
There is, of course, a forum for non-prog topics, so I suspect that is where people who don't wish to discuss prog go!

I came here for the Prog, and the only reason I stay here is for the Pogressive rock and progressive minded Proggers. I don't visit the forums to learn about Prog really (I use other parts of the site for that), but I do come here to the board to discuss Progressive Rock music, and related issues, with fellow progheads. I often see non-Prog topics that would normally interest me, but I mostly choose to stick to Prog discussions here.
Considering I have a newborn, I don't find I have much time to discuss other topics when I do drop by. Besides, I had other boards for other types of discussions (though now this is the only board I frequent), |

I'm here because I haven't got anything else to do. If I had, I wouldn't be as active as I am.
