It's an important distinction to make - Primus are a great band, but not prog. Has anyone ever mentioned that the Beatles were progressive... |

Well, If even Yes is progressive after what they done in the last 20 years, then Primus and Faith No More are as well!

Yes they did open for Rush on that tour, and also the Counterparts tour (which I saw twice ). I'm really not sure they're prog, but they are awesome, and they definitely are NOT punk. That's just naff (hey, a new word I've picked up in the forum ). Show me a punk group with those chops, and don't tell me Larry Lalonde is not a very accomplished guitarist; his stuff sounds very random and atonal at times, but you gotta know the scales to consciously not hit one note that falls within them . Plus he is one of Joe Satriani's former students. BTW, his playing is much more harmonic on some of their later stuff. Edited by Ben2112 |

f**k YEAH, LET EM' IN............................
Face it, as soon as they are included in the archives Les Claypool becomes the de facto best prog bass player of all time!!! This is no hyperbole either, it's just fact. Prog hard lliners should listen to the following covers by primus in order to understand just how potent this three piece is. Intruder - Peter Gabriel Making plans for Nigel - XTC (they prog it up, I swear) Sinister Exaggerator - Residents Have a Cigar - Pink Floyd (if you've overdone the original, this one's for you) Family and the fishing net - Peter Gabriel. |

I also think Bumblefoot should be in the archives, because he is like a modern frank zappa.

Primus is influenced by several prog bands (Rush, King Crimson,
etc...(I think), so I think of them as a different and unique type of
prog. If they get in I'd be happy to review all their albums and
eps. They are one of my favorites.
Also, if Primus makes it on here, there are some projects that would fit well along side of Primus. Les Claypool's Frog Brigade (listen to Cosmic Highway), Oysterhead and Sausage. Also about Faith no more, I don't think they belong. Just because Mr. Bungle is here (as they were one of the greatest ever), doesn't mean all of Patton's things should be here. Faith no more doesn't strike me as prog in any remote sense. Fantomas would belong before Faith but even then there are some projects that I think would go better then Fantomas like: Secret Chief 3 Eyving Kang John Zorn Kaada / Patton This is not to say that I think Fantomas couldn't fit in here just fine though.
