this song is not so bad. But Vanden`s Plas version of it is just terrible. I think that it the worst cover ever. Strange because this German band is not so bad. I always treat this song a complete mistake.

If it's any consolation, the videos that accompanied Misplaced Childhood are silly (Heart of Lothian), stalkerish (Kayleigh, look at the smile on Fish's face!), and downright celtic (Lavender)... which in a sense =

I don't think for one minute it is the worst song ever, or even the worst song by Marillion, but I do agree that it isn't very good! It is the worst song on Misplaced Childhood for me, and I'm not even sure why!
Interestingly enough, a friend of a friend, years ago, just after the album came out, wanted Kayleigh taping on a compilation tape he was making. He hated Marillion, but loved that song!
For me it's the other way round, I like the band but don't think much of the song.
Maybe it's because it has been overplayed, a bit like Rush's 'The Spirit Of Radio', which is another track I dislike, even though I enjoy Rush.

Thanks for bringing this up. I remember when that song came out. It was kind of a hit...it got played on the radio and I believe MTV...but I don't recall it being any kind of monster hit. Its sounded exactly like what it is: One of those 'hey lets put together a nice little song that sounds like Asia or Genesis' ditties.
Worst song ever? There's a pretty big list for those. I suppose it could be included. But, to me, it was more of a disgustingly-contrived song than it was an awful sounding song. Edited by ldlanberg - August 08 2006 at 02:10 |
