I refuse to vote. Both are great. If my life depended on it I might vote for Rush but that's only because I'm more of a Rush fan.

Really? That'd include 'Never Say Die', which I would have thought would immediately put it on shaky ground.

Not really a fan of either band but I would be much more interested/enthusiastic about listening to this stretch of Sabbath than any Rush after 2112.

No contest for me, as every one of those Sabbath albums are awesome, with Sabotage being my favourite Sabbath album.
That run of six Rush albums is for more, far more patchy. I actually really quite like Rush, so I decided to work out if there is any six album sequence that works for me, but theres not. I can make a couple of five albums sequences that I think are great, but not six. However, if I compare complete discographies, Rush blows Sabbath away, as their overall quality and enjoyment factor is, for me, far higher than Sabbath. This six album sequence is probably the only way I would put Sabbath ahead of Rush. 🤔 (That is to say, I like every one of these six Sabbath albums more than any Rush album, but really they become far more up and down from this point than Rush ever were.) |

if Tony Iommi doesn't know how to play why is he #1 in Loudwire and Mojo polls. Jimmy Page is floating somewhere. Sabbath was always better than either. Rush is a better prog rock band for sure though. Alex Lifeson is underrated to much. Led Zeppelin lives off Stairway to Heaven overplay and the hype is now a faint echo after the song rip off scandal. Houses of the Holy is king. Dancing Days I know they wrote it has Jimmy's unison bend signature from the start. He didn't rip it off Cat scratch fever either.

agreed, i listened to both bands first three albums all summer in the early 70's before Judas priest, motorhead, Slayer came along. Now Loudwire Polls are giving top billing to Tony Iommi for greatest guitarist. Even over Rhodes and Jimmy Page. I get Revenge 40 years later. Sabbath Rules. great Legacy. Thank You. People. If you like Prog Rock a lot Listen to Jane's Fire, Water , Earth And Air. I saw them in Germany 1978. The album is Pink Floyd type better than most except Animals, and Dark Side of the moon.

For me, Sabbath's best album is Reunion. It's got just about the best songs from the 70's, and are upgraded and made much heavier. I enjoy just about all of them over their studio versions. On the other hand, I do consider Dio to be a much better singer. |

an easy vote for Sabbath. It takes more than the Necromancer to top what Sabbath did.

several.. I would have thought more. Then again you came a bit late to the O.K Corral. You would have loved it and likely would have been drafted into my team of cutthroats, knee breakers and ass kickers. This site was truly wild early on. oh you are talking to the undisputed king of hidden, and delted posts.. along with the never be touched record holder of deleted PM's from admins threatening me to lay off the women, children and limp dicked. Good times...

You bet I did! I had already read about that somewhere, and thought it was one of the most idiotic proposals I'd heard in a long time. As you aptly wrote in your post, Tolkien would've been the first to disagree with the idea. Anyway, I voted for the Sabs - and I like Rush quite a bit. Great music is not just a question of technical proficiency, as also illustrated by early Pink Floyd.
