True but one of the greatest black metal bands. They had a hard time at the start of their career because after the release of their debut 3 out of 4 band members were in jail.
|
"Prometheus" is a very proggy Black metal album though, so this band has more prog elements than other bands listed there.

The problem with your statement here (and with the list you've given)
is that you've quoted someone else's review. Just because someone
labels a band prog doesn't necessarily mean that they're prog - you
have to justify that statement by giving specific reasons why they
should be considered prog.
Having said that, here are some comments on the bands I'm familiar with:
AD/Kerry Livgren - Definitely worth considering, due to the Kansas
connection, but I have only heard a few tracks, so I can't make an
informed decision.
America Gomorrah - Heard a few mp3s, which I liked, and are possibly a candidate for being included here.
Nightingale, King's X, Galactic Cowboys, Tourniquet - All of these have
prog elements in their music, which for some people might be enough to
warrant their inclusion, however I don't think they're proggy enough to
be here.
Balance Of Power - Never understood why these guys get labelled prog. They're a good band, I just don't hear any prog.
Sacred Warrior, Deliverance, Jacobs Dream - Good metal bands, but not prog

Nightingale-The band themselves label their music as prog. I personally think their music is a bit AOR-ish
Edge of Sanity-They were one of the death bands to introduce prog element to their music. Peronally I think there are more progressive death metal bands
Alchemist-Just because the band has a lot of psyche elements doesn't mean they're prog
Failure-Not Prog in the least. Great band though
Postman Syndrome-This band needs to be put on Prog Archives immediately. Probably some of the most inventive and creative music I've ever heard

Kerry Livgren belongs here. He is on of two main songwriters for Kansas and is the main songwriter for Proto-Kaw both of whom are already in the Archives. Most of his solo stuff and AD stuff should qualify him. Steve Walsh the other songwriter from Kansas belongs here for his last two works Glossolia and Shawdowman.

ever heard prometheus? (they shouldn't be added here though)
No, unfortunately not. But I'll fill the gaps.
also gorguts is extremely strange and progressive - no other band has the same sound.
I've only heard about them and their best record Obscura. Are they similar to Atheist?

Good effort but some are defo not prog - e.g Cocteau Twins....
Also maybe check your list first as some are defo already here
Plus it's so big it's virtually a website in itself
Great effort though, all in the name of discovering more bands - plus you stumped BaldFriede which is tantamount to impossible ....................then again that might be because it's not all prog !?

I can't remember what I said
I lost my head.

Cocteau Twins are great, but definitely not prog.

Slint are Math-Rock. Cocteau Twins are more pop than anything. Butthole Surfers, they're not prog!!

Most of the bands on Kohllapse's list I haven't even heard the names
of, except for 4 or 5. But I'll counter that with two suggestions of my
own:
Invisible Opera Company of Tibet
University of Errors

BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue.

Guapo's prog, all right, and you should all have Five Suns in your
collection...unless you hate Magma. And how could you?
