Supper's Ready, although GoD is my favourite Yes track. Almost everything by Genesis beats anything from Yes for me though.

The
instrumental is very nice but there are too much vocals for my taste.
When I think about listening to Relayer I look at all the lyrics in the
gatefold and then I pick something else LOL

Oh, yeah, that is precisely what I'm thinking when Mr. Anderson is singing perhaps the most beautiful prog ballad ever, Soon. Someone call a cop!

i would have liked to go Supper's Ready on this one, but it all comes down to the issue of rediscovery as time goes by. That is to say Gates' offers fans a unique listening challenge (interpretation of elements) on each new play. Although Supper's Ready ranks high among Genesis offerings in the band's level of musicianship and Gabriel's performance on it, Gates' edges it out by means of complexity and theme.

The guitar sound is so extraordinary---and an example of the artistry of a one of a kind guitarist---name another guitarist who could go from the sound in the beginning of CTTE to a few years later the evil, funky sound of Gates. The guy is a creative genius.

However, I can say the same about Gates of Delirium... and it's just got such energy that SR lacks, that I have to vote for it. And even better if I think about the Orchestral version on Yes's Symphonic Live album, with a real wonderful interplay between band and orchestra, such as I believe has hardly been heard when rock bands have gotten to play with orchestras.

yep love that versionClap

Agreed!

Genesis, Supper's Ready.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

I hold the somewhat controversial opinion that Genesis were at their best when Gabriel WASN'T the main focus of the band.  The same thing holds true for Gabriel.  Even though I find Relayer a hard nut to crack, I'll definitely take "The Gates" over "Supper's Ready."
I am the funkiest man on the planet!
