If you don't get them...you should listen to the Canterbury crap that is going around...same musicians different names , absolutely rubbish music.....i cringe when i remember buying half of them......very middle class nonsense.

That's quite a broad selection. So you don't like
bright prog, simplistic and accessible prog, dark prog or complex prog?
At least, that's how it seems. Just so I know, what bands DO you like?
|
From his name I'd guess Camel..
|
zappa, porcupine tree, elp, yes, magma, pink floyd, dream theater, godspeed you.. , opeth. etc etc.
its hard to say what kind of prog i like, but those bands above just dont do anything to me. |
Very strange... I would've thought a love of magma went hand in hand with VDGG for example.
|
he who is sitting in a glass-house...
what about Henry Cow and the Art Bears, Trousie? same situation as with Magma and VdGG
|
...shush.

Frank Zappa (I only like one album by him, "Hot Rats")
Marillion (one word: corny)
Primus (I can't stand Claypool's vocals, yeah, I know it's all a joke, and maybe that's why I don't like them in the first place)
Kansas (lacks originality, IMO)

The joy of this type of music is that virtually Everyone is capable of producing crud. And will, sometime in their career. Having said that, the bands who do little for me would include Zappa (although "Live at the Fillmore East" is a crackup), Triumvirate and Fireballet (great 1st album - but the cover of the second album was better than the music - and the cover sucked).
I would also like to nominate all of the bands of the late 70's that put Prog elements into both pop and hard rock - i.e. Journey (YUK), New England & Guffria (although Greg Guffria's prior band, Angel, put out some decent stuff).

May God Bless you in all that you do.

On the one hand, I love Yes, GG, The Enid, UK, some albums by Rick Wakeman, Refugee, Happy The Man and so on. On the other hand, I've never been able to dig KC, Genesis, VDGG, Rush, Dream Theatre, Magma and ELP( due to the non symphonic jazz/accustic stuff that appears next to the good stuff on all of their records).
