There's a social aspect to it. If you see a bunch of people participating in the ritual, you might want to fit in and do it as well.

This isn't really one of those loud, aggressive rants. This is where I plead people to help me understand something: the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Look, if you want to take a shower, take a shower. There's no need for this meaningless ritual. Don't just go on Facebook and brag about being aware of something. (Want to call me a cynic, fine, that's alright.) Just donate. A donation is enough. I believe if you want to encourage someone to donate, why not show them a video of people who are having a tough time with ALS, see what they are going through exactly? And why does it have to be only ALS? What about other forms of palsy and scleroses, or something else that's health-related?

Am I really missing something here?

Ah. I have to admit I have zero respect and zero tolerance for nationalism - they should be denied the oxygen of publicity and the only way I can do that as an individual is by not engaging with them in debate of any kind.

Wise words Dean. I wish I could live up to them, but there are times when the foolish and angry teenager pops up in me when dealing with such people (Danish Nationalists have a tendency to bring out the worst in me).
Maybe it'll get better with age.

Dear Marje,

Am I really a liberal?

yours respectfully,

Perplexed of Hampshire

Following a suggestion on the social media platform known as Facebook to "Meet the woman whose photo is making liberal heads explode all across the Internet, and enjoy all the wonderful reasons they hate it so", I was disappointed to find that as a "liberal" my head not only failed to explode, my ire was not piqued and my blood refused to boil. I also find that I harbour no ill-feelings towards this person, Holly Fisher (who now goes by the moniker of Holly Hobby Lobby), nor do I hate her or have any desire to shower her in verbal abuse or condemnation. Also any resulting notion that I was perhaps not as "liberal" as I thought I was was notably missing from my reaction too and as such it did not cause me to question my own beliefs and opinions or change my view of those that hold opposing beliefs or opinions. That both Chick-Fill-A and Hobby Lobby is for all practical purposes unknown outside of the insular world of the Untied States is immaterial, those of us in the rest of the World (ie "All Across The Internet") do know the back-story here and the while distance from which we view this may not afford us the same perspective as those who invited us to meet Mrs Fisher, or of those whose heads did metaphorically explode (or implode), it does mean we understand the underlying issue and can have an opinion on it.

Of course the photograph was taken and disseminated purposely to provoke a reaction, (the glee in the accompanying tag for supporters to "enjoy all the wonderful reasons" is evidence of that), it was trolling for all those negative reactions and it duly got them: 'Quelle surprise' - or more accurately - 'Quelle désappointement'. Any indignation from either side is a tad hollow and disingenuous.

What the photograph and the viral reaction/counter-reaction it has created demonstrates is not the intended message, but the stupidity of those that use The Internet, regardless of their politics, religion or philosophy. Not just in those who felt the overwhelming need to vent their spleen and post a stream of bile in reaction to it or in support of it, but in those who felt the equally overwhelming need share it All Across The Internet.

Regardless of whether it is written into a constitution or whether it is a basic human right the freedom of speech permits people to hold and voice opposing views, it does not mean that I should tolerate or respect them - the right to hold the view is to be respected, but not the view itself or the person holding it. However, this does not grant anyone the right to be disrespectful towards them, and equally it does not grant anyone the right to be disrespectful in defence of someone else.

It doesn't seem right, but owners are cheap and treat musicians like bus boys and waiters. Plus original bands performing in small venues , (a hole in the wall), are often appreciated by the crowd , but don't often walk away with 2 pennies to rub together. Unless I'm invited to sit in with a more popular band in the city, I'm paid nothing...however if I play covers the money is there. Especially if you have a following and please Mr. Money bags.

I drive a truck loaded with a huge P.A. system for one hour, set up the stage with light show, pay the sound tech one hundred dollars to run the digital board, play original Prog music and get 5 or 10 dollars. That's simply not worth the distance just for the sake of art.

A couple of days we agreed to do an "open Mic" special. Blues bands, Folk bands and Classic Rock bands. Great musicians and a nice time. I'm standing on the deck and in walks a musician I had not seen in 40 years. There stood before me...a woman with shoulder length hair, a long beautiful dress, and high heels. I looked at her face and saw my old friend Dave from the "Glam Rock" days. Seeing his face brought back memories . Memories of traveling with an original "Glam Rock" band. My first greeting was...."Don't I know you?" She responded by saying...."I don't see how you could possibly know me, I'm from South Carolina". She then introduced herself as Maggie , but with Dave's last name attached. She asked me my name and responded with charged emotion...."What kind of a name is that?" She entered the stage and performed 2 Blues numbers. She stayed and watched us play a Fusion instrumental. She walked out after that and spoke to no one in particular while leaving. There's something about this experience that angers me. There was no need for the experience to exist , but I can't control fate or the "never a dull moment" in life concept. I rant because I don't appreciate being connected to such energy. It's like....someone you grew up with pretending not to know you...because they changed their sex, took on a new role/name and wanted a new life by wiping out their past.

I suppose life could be worse. I could be dressing in robes with a shaved head...dancing around at airports. I've played in many bands to keep my mind off the past. It has worked except for the occasional trigger and that rates about a C plus average in my ability to move on. I'm in a strange place. A person who witnessed others being abused. To share....(out of interest to others ), I was dragged through mud a few times and thrown into a hole/ditch. I was threatened by mentally unstable people dressed in black cloaks. So what I do is compose themes around the nightmares of life and have released this music discovering that most of my sales were from Europe. Life is good for a composer when people personally enjoy he/she's music. That's more about the gift than the money.

I ran into an old childhood friend at a gig who was an SRA victim. She seemed to have her life together regarding her ability to repair surface damaged which is indicated  in the personality and is a doorway into examining the SR abuse. Of course I haven't seen her in years , but I don't doubt that she has triggers. We were all great childhood friends , but we were faced with growing up in a town that had a history of cult killings. I would say that 10 or more kids I grew up with were abused sexually in a sadistic nature, along with mental torture implanted in some of our minds to remain dorment until a trigger sets it off. We had an isolated situation that felt so vast within itself because of the high percentage growth of abducted children , some cult killings in relation with Black Magic spells and odd evident things like the police finding poppets tied to trees with local women's names and a threat they would die via magic. Nothing happened but it was strange to grow up around such bizzare activity. The police finally decided to investigate for a period of 2 years. They had a theory derived from the clues they discovered along the way. They found the dead remains of animals in ponds and wooded areas and they investigated members of a church . The police claimed a Satan worshippers sect was corrupting the minds of the youth by brainwashing them . I knew it was true...because I was there, lived through it, whatever? ......and that's next to impossible to prove to anyone, so if you are a victim of SRA....most of the time it's pointless to share it with anyone who grew up in Peyton Place , is a skeptic, or perhaps has experienced a entire different lifestyle than you. The police couldn't prove what was true because there were no marks left on a dead body. Five years ago my good friend Sharon was stabbed to death by her husband who was connected to the cult. It's really hard on me to accept the reality of it. My heart has been ripped deeply .

I am really falling behind on money. Just found out that the Kaspersky f$%kers took $240 out of my account without my consent, causing my account balance to fall below $0. I did not ask for an automatic subscription renewal !

Today's results prove that this is a typo. I contacted the IRS and they suggested the standard procedures/steps for a civilian/victim of identity theft. This is very pathetic. Think about it. You are very small to the IRS and what's going on in your tiny little mind? I was suppose to file a police report, visit the social security administration, obtain a letter from Urban stating I was never employed, and file an online report with the IRS. Certain obvious clues when examining this case reveal a typo. It seems extreme following the procedure given by the IRS. This is right out of a Woody Allen movie.

Had the council round today to extend the dropped kerb outside our house (as we now have a bigger drive). Now they have a monopoly on this - if you get your own builder to do it they will come round, put it all back again and charge you for doing it.

So anyway you have to pay them an exorbitant fee for about a few hours work (at least half an hour of which they were sat in the cab drinking tea) that works out at around £250 per hour. Nice work if you can get it. I'm in the wrong game.

I have been recently contacted by the unemployment office . They want to know why I haven't filed a claim for 2013 where their records show that I worked for a company called "Urban Design". I am not part of the workforce and I've been filing independent taxes for years. Last year someone used my name and social security number and worked a job. No way can Iaccept these benefits. I have to meet with them in the morning and somehow prove that I'm not the person who worked that job. I contacted the company ..but the phone number was disconnected.

I'm still in the music business week to week. I love to play out and over long periods we have developed a following that are family to us. I usually keep to myself apart from hand shakes and hugs with everyone, but in the last few months, I have helped our fans by listening to their problems. It's very natural because we are all friends. It's very devastating to me how the world is consumed with problems because I have (except for stage), always been sheltered. Girls with fake breasts, girls who cast love spells, body building men who squeeze me or give a tight hand shake.....all these people are sweethearts and love to party. They have supported the band greatly. I m not very fond of having to work out my facial expressions just to get them off my back. They will say....."Your very quiet" or "what's wrong" or "are you alright?"' I'm often daydreaming and people mean well, but they begin to pick me apart like I'm on display. Then I take it seriously and bring harm to myself. I have a track record of 3 suicide attempts where I was hospitalized and placed under observation. It's easy to communicate when it's a keyboard and no one physically present. I believe people have ulterior motives and I often escape behind the club on breaks. I hate being the little boy , off in his fantasy world...just because I dislike sexual promiscuity, drugs, and plastic surgery.

Speaking as someone who has seen what such infatuation can lead to when one half of a long term marriage decides kismet has chosen a different direction for him I can only say what results I saw when my friend acted on it.

Hurt
Heartache
Misery
Resentment

My friends had no children either.

Show me one married man who can honestly say he's never even looked at another woman & wondered "what if...", however fleetingly & I'll point to a liar.

It. Isn't. Worth. It.

Just my tuppence worth

I think it is easy to mistake infatuation for love, love for lust and lust for infatuation and all three for fate, destiny, kismet and inevitability. Sometimes feelings are best left unrequited so they pass as fleeting memories even if that does result in momentary frustration - that at least is easier to mend.
