The result will just represent the choice of 150 forum members over the best Prog band ever.

Nothing more, nothing less : )

Let's say there's a 1 or even 3 vote difference.

Does this mean

a) the winner is a better band; or
b) the winner is a better prog rock / prog/music band; or
c) the loser is really much better than their predecessors (FZ, UZ, Tes, Genesis, Tull etc); or
d) the winner has released more better albums than the loser; or
e) those with many albums or all by both has a pretty good collection of albums and that having lotsof representations by all of the above and all of the above's competition predecessors is also a pretty good idea.

Plus there are some really funny stories associated with just these two as well to bring a smile to the dial. That one about the PF manager being so happy stating there he was no way anything could ruin his day - this statement acting as a challenge to Rog that took him 7 minutes to ensure the late Mr Steve O'Rourke (S.O'Re?) departed in a towering rage is a pretty good one.

Nearly as good as that one RF related about being stuck outside his hotel room sans trousers... or thrown out of his own studio by his own band... (they kissed and made up in the end...)LOL The 4 piece that made 3 of a perfect pair (2) which was the last (1) studio album by that line up. Until the Absent (...0...) Lovers (told you they kissed and made up!)

(great live album btw!!!)

Who is "we?" Us or them? Or Neal and Jack and Me? Crimson or Pink? The band who had a former Zappa man or the band that jammed with Zappa?

Maybe it should be which of these two milk's it's back catalogue most effectively... or do I mean market their product? (At least you get new old stuff from Crim. In Oh, By The Way, btw PF didn't even include Relics...)

well, it's only rock and roll... oops I mean it's only Knock and know all...Wink

Very tough call, even for a Floyd fanatic such as myself. Ultimately, what it came down to for me was the band with the most amount of material I simply could not live without.

For KC its three - the Wetton era records. For Floyd it's 6 - Atom Heart Mother through to Animals, inclusive (yes, even including Obscured By Clouds). So I pick Floyd.

I can't vote against KC.  With the number of times they altered their sound, and their ability to churn out great music with an always changing lineup, they are truly progressive by spirit.

Well, here we are, the 'best' prog band ever? I'm not so sure of that but with this pairing I pick King Crimson. In real terms I go with Yes as the best prog band ever. King Crimson is not as much a band as it is a Robert Fripp collection of various musicians with varying styles. As a band Yes has written far more complex material collectively. Example, Close to the Edge, And You and I, and Awaken just to name but three. The structure and composition of these three songs alone ecplipse anything King Crimson did for the possible exception of 'In the Court of the Crimson King'. Genesis would have to be my number two band behind Yes. However, that being said I do like much of what King Crimson did and I even prefer them to Genesis in the here and now. Preferences are subjective however. I don't think any prog act has or will beat the compostion of the album 'Close to the Edge'. Pink Floyd is not really a true prog band in my eyes but they are the most popular band to come out of England, right up there with Led Zeppelin. Popularity is not a true measure of talent and it can even be said that popularity is inversly proportional to talent in many cases.

Its not because it's more complex that it is better.
Songwritting ability is way more rare than musical talent.
