Masini was just to mention one rubbish and probably not the worst at all... I agree about the period, and given it TFC was probably one of the best things released in that period.

I prefer things like Misplaced Childhood and 90125, but finding another good album from 83-84 is really hard.
Specifically to TFC, I'm used to give importance to the lyrics when they are present. Surely they matter in any concept album.

However, please move the discussion about TFC to http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=72890

even if I guess I know how you will vote Wink

OK, Marco Masini is REAL rubbish, there's no doubt about it.  Dead

But... yes, italian reviewers called Final Cut "garbage". Anyway, in that age all the "old prog rockers" were considered "dinosaurs" and really all the survivors were billed as "extincted and to delete the sooner", and the "only music worth listening was stuff like Soft Cell's or Depeche Mode's".

I remember when Yes reformed... OMG, they were fooled and treated like the worst killer! but the huge success of Owner of a lonely heart shutted up reviewers' mouth.

Back to Floyd and considering the (particularly awful in musical tastes) period, it was said that "if you're given Final Cut as change in supermarkets, you have to protest!".
Do you think that this is a good review?

Italian reviews ?Journalists used to call "Rock" everything has an electric guitar sound e.g. Marco Masini?. However I don't remember anybody calling TFC "garbage" in 1983.

I said "awful"? Even worse, I think. Rubbish.

But I fully disagree with the Jethro Tull's Dot Com and with Genesis' Abacab
Of course they are not masterpieces but have their good moments; but - most important - they are NOT Jethro's and Genesis' worst things ever.
Surely Tull's Under Wraps is a collection of useless and ugliest songs (but 3 and a half) ever, while Invisible Touch is, without any doubt, Genesis' worst album ever. But, strange indeed, their most successful album...
I agree with Camel (CAMEL?!? Andy LAtimer, you mean!)'s Single Factor... really poor.
Camera Camera by Renaissance is not so bad... there are at least three songs that are good indeed, even if poppy arranged, But the structure is good. Subsequent Time line is really worst!
The Final Cut is so controversial that I've started a separate poll about it. About Renaissance, I didn't survive to Camera Camera so I've been so lucky to have saved my money with Time Line. As I stated at the beginning, the list is based on albums that I own. Of course there cen be something worse, but I can't purchase all the garbage released in the last 30 years Big smile.

Of course there´s should be some reason The Final Cut is in list; it's a complete losing time album.

The Final Cut ! Big smile

I do not consider Big Generator to be so worse (ok, it's not a peak), nor ThrakkaKAKTZKFKZEELRGK (you see ?).

It's a fine and original album. Quite unique and bashed because of that.

^^^^

Except that's almost never quite how it happened.  Just how like how comparing 90125 to Close to the Edge makes no sense, whereas from Drama to 90125 sounds, naturally, a better reflection of the truth. There's this unofficial fansite called Renaissance Prologue I think and they have uploaded the tourbooks for all the albums from Scheherazade through to Azure D Or and that tells you more about the  gradual change in 'priorities' of the band.  That said, it's still rather strange how they completely lost it after Song for all Seasons, which in 1978 was more inspired than Love Beach, And Then There Were Three or Tormato.  Azure D Or sounds tired and uninspired and not the album you'd expect of a band on the rise.  Perhaps, the 'camps' that seem to have formed within the band were tearing them apart by then.

This is going to become a "Final Cut" thread...that's not a bad idea at all.
Unfortunately this debate is obscuring the poorness of other albums in the list.
Magma's Mercy could have been a good album if released by the Village People and about Camera Camera

look at this:
Renaissance Ashes Are Burning album cover

Then at this:

Renaissance Camera Camera album cover

Doesn't it tell everything?
