Aww, don't say that, you have everything from heavy to pure prog to eclectic and neo in there. Plus, this is the first time I come across a band called Deadsoul Tribe! Must look them up
The thread may have been done to death on the forum over the years but I also think that it's nice to see so many recently registered members kind of gather in a thread of their own. Welcome to all and sundry, hope you stick around and eventually get to know prog beyond the more well-known bands. The big ones are always worth a listen but there is also great delight in finding the more hidden gems...
Some of my favs:
Porcupine Tree
Yes
Pain Of Salvation
Rush
Genesis
VDGG/Peter Hammill
Can
Caravan + the rest of the Canterbury stuff

3 Yes
4 Jethro Tull
5 Eloy
6 Van der Graaf Generator
7 Genesis
8 Le Orme
9 King Crimson
10 Anyones Daughter
All these bands are classic prog bands
if I would include the more heavy metallish prog bands
I would put Rush at one and I may also include bands like:

I'm what you would call a newbie in progressive rock, so my list is going to be rather newb-ish.... but here goes
1) Early Queen (Queen (debut) - A Day At The Races)
2) Coheed & Cambria
3) Pink Floyd
4) Yes
5) Early Genesis (Foxtrot is the only thing I've heard, but I can tell the early stuff is good)

I've more or less got them in preference order.
1. Marillion 2. Genesis 3. PinkFloyd 4. Sigur Ros 5. Gong 6. Led Zeppelin 7. Steve Hillage 8. Rush 9. Peter Gabriel 10. Yes
At the moment, I probably listening to more Sigur Ros than anything else.

Jesus christ, the only thing less original than posting a "favourite prog bands"-thread is whining about it. You only bump it by doing so anyway. It's not that i don't agree, but what are you gonna do about it? Kill him?

Possibly
But being serious, I'm glad it gets bumped that's kind of why I did it, so some admin could possibly see it and start doing something about terrible threads like this.
|
I've seen lots of threads stickied to the top of sections so one would think if that is what they wanted done with common topics, that is what they would do. But they don't, so, as others have mentioned, they probably want newcomers to feel welcome to revisit these topics.

good thread. Very original. You ought to fit in here in no time, progfanatic |
that was great...but don't rag on AC/DC, just because they're not prog doesn't mean that they're not good...if you haven't already listen to powerage and I can assure you that you'll get hooked.
