Damn, and I wasted my votes on the groups I didn't even like... Well, some of them...

I thought about that. I took KC off my list for that reason. But Rush, unlike KC, achieved the greatest success post 1980, which IMO qualifies them.

No, Ghandi 2, they only need to be active after 1980, and only their achievements after that year will count. Otherwise we'd have to trace every groups history, and if they started, god forbids, in 1979, what, dismiss them?
Also, although your favorite groups may have already been named here, it doesn't guarantee that they will make the cut, unless they get enough votes.
The number of entries in the poll will be limited, keep in mind!

Well, I know this forum is a bunch of New Wave haters, but I have to
mention one of my favorite bands ever, Oingo Boingo, which catapulted
Danny Elfman into the absurdly rich, highly in demand film composer he
is today.

The greatest group of the last 25 years pre-poll survey
I got the idea for this poll while reading the U2 thread on these boards. I was actually stunned by micky’s comment that U2 was, in his opinion, the greatest group of the last 25 years. Has the last quarter of century been indeed so bleak? But then, after thinking about it for a while and looking at some charts I decided that he was, unfortunately, right. But that’s "out there", a popular opinion. Let’s see what the prog heads on this forum think about that.
Please submit up to 10 names of your candidates for the poll. You are more than welcome to start a discussion on the subject or to elaborate on the candidates to advance your point. I am yet to decide how many groups there should be in the poll, and you can make your suggestions of course, but I don’t think that the number should exceed 10-12. We’ll see as the names start coming in…
So, the greatest GROUP (not an individual artist), in any genre of music, based on its achievements and impact since 1980.
Well, I'll go first: U2, Metallica, Nirvana, Radiohead, REM, Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones...
