that's true and quite funny, especially since Gabriel and Fish do a lot of "histrionics" themselves.

"fishy" actually means "improbable, as a story; unlikely; of questionable character; suspicious:"

Fish sounds rather like a cross between Gabriel and Hammill to me, but really I just wanted to make a silly pun on the word fishy which means strange and weird. Incidentally, I know some people who love Fish's and Gabriel's vocals who hate Hammill's vocals (not just his histrionics) -- I like Hammill more.

the same guy who sounds like Peter Gabriel LOL....  granted there was a weird factor associated with that.

Sounds kind of like Phil Collins when Phil Collins sounds like Peter Gabriel, which is kind of Fish-y.

Diamanda Galas is another who is rather unconventional.

Fish sounds more like Peter Hammill, and on purpose. it is not for nothing that the covers of two Hammill albums, "Fool's Mate" and "Over", appear on the cover of "Fugazi".

Fish was originally supposed to sing the role of Montresor on Hammill's "The Fall of the House of Usher". but it turned out their voices were too similar, so he was replaced by Andy Bell

some of those options are considered among the greatest vocalists ever to grace prog. In particular the two Italians.
I'm guessing its weird as in unconventional and I can understand most of the options included to an extent. Still don't get what Francesco di Giacomo is doing there though.

unconventional... hell yeah for Stratos but like you..  can't think of a single weird factor associated with di Giacomo. Oh well... it takes all kinds to make a prog village...

Between the voices on this pool, my favorite ( including that I love their bands) "weird" voice  is Geedy Lee follow by Francesco di Giacomo, but I think which Bernardo Lanzetti from AQUAFRAGILE and PFM is also very  "weird" !!!!

Voices can be weird and good, but what's weird and good to one person may not be to another. Of course there are certain musical standards for what makes a technically accomplished vocalist, but distinctive vocals are often more important to me than technical virtuosity. I do like some very technically accomplished ones such as the opera-trained vocals of Topi Lehtipuu of Koyry-Kone, but there are a number in the list that I think have both great range and tone (i.e. good/ accomplished) but also have quite a unique style.

I think that distinctive is a more apt descriptor for the selection. I would have included Roger Wooton.

In best singer polls, I have often chosen Francesco di Giacomo as the best singer (of course best and weird are both rather subjective) and Demetrio Stratos is another particular favourite of mine. I like most in the list, and most I consider to be good vocalists with distinctive styles -- I'm not keen on Geddy Lee's voice, and much prefer the similar, but odder voice of David Surkamp.

sticking to the theme.. not voting favorite (Stratos) but favorite 'weird' vocalist of which Stratos was nothing close to weird.

Easily early Geddy... his shrieking elf vocals did more to raise that group from musical and lyrical medicority than the Necromancer could have ever done on its own.

Di Giacomo, Stratos, Krause and Suzuki are among my favorite singers, but PH is THE vocalist for me.
