Brilliant guitarists, both of them. Fripp's guitar work on the Lark's era KC albums made me love avant-gardistic music, and Frith's playing with Henry Cow and related bands is beyond excellent. So it's basically a tie, but I'll vote for Frith though since he seems to loose this poll..

That did not have to be a compliment, though, and probably wasn't one, IMO.

Heh, sure is. Though I guess the late Derek Bailey was 'weirder'(I hate that word when it's used in relation to good music) than both of them. And he probably influenced both of them, as well.

For those who missed my radio interview with Jakko Jakscyk about a year ago, when he was talking about preparing and then  recording the most excellent The Bruised Romantic Glee Club double album. Apparently Jakko showed Robert Fripp the score for Cow's Nirvana For Mice. Jakko says that Fripp took one look and said: I leave that to you to play mate, it looks to complicated for me." The result can be heard on the said album.

I'd say that if you're a Fripp fan, you should definitely check out Frith.  Stylistically speaking they aren't the same, but both are great guitarists.  I recommend Frith's '80's releases over anything else he's done.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I haven't heard enough of Frith to vote against him, but I haven't heard anything that's really blown me away so far, as a guitar player. As a composer, the choice would be pretty tough, though.
