Two guitarists who specialise in making people run for the exit - which can only be a good thing. Unless I'm the one doing the running.

I'm actually not going to vote in this one, since I haven't heard nearly enough of Fred Frith's music. What I have heard, though, was very promising.

Frith. I fear many people will vote Fripp without even having heard Frith...

^ Yeah, you're probably right. Guess the hint in my post could prove futile.

Firth is great, but there can be only one... Fripp

I'll take the hint and stay out, but I bet I would vote for fripp even if I knew firth better then I do now.

I can acutally say that I have never run to the exit during a KC or Fripp concert.

I voted for Frith. He is the weirder of the two, and that's saying a lot.

At least well enough to spell his name right, hopefully Tongue.

I haven't heard enough of Frith to vote against him, but I haven't heard anything that's really blown me away so far, as a guitar player. As a composer, the choice would be pretty tough, though.

I'm happy to say that I instantly thought "I can't vote on this as I'm unfamilair with Frith"

As this post says though this sadly will probably happen.....point very well made

Incidentally I gather I should famiiliarise myself?

Frith is nearly a stranger to my minuscule musical culture so I won't vote. But that makes me want to know more about his works.

I'd say that if you're a Fripp fan, you should definitely check out Frith.  Stylistically speaking they aren't the same, but both are great guitarists.  I recommend Frith's '80's releases over anything else he's done.

Fripp, one of the best musicians of music history, not only prog rock...

For those who missed my radio interview with Jakko Jakscyk about a year ago, when he was talking about preparing and then  recording the most excellent The Bruised Romantic Glee Club double album. Apparently Jakko showed Robert Fripp the score for Cow's Nirvana For Mice. Jakko says that Fripp took one look and said: I leave that to you to play mate, it looks to complicated for me." The result can be heard on the said album.

Heh, sure is. Though I guess the late Derek Bailey was 'weirder'(I hate that word when it's used in relation to good music) than both of them. And he probably influenced both of them, as well.

That did not have to be a compliment, though, and probably wasn't one, IMO.

LOL

Another point for Frith.

It's a close call, but Frith gets my vote.

Brilliant guitarists, both of them. Fripp's guitar work on the Lark's era KC albums made me love avant-gardistic music, and Frith's playing with Henry Cow and related bands is beyond excellent. So it's basically a tie, but I'll vote for Frith though since he seems to loose this poll..
