Artist Name: Jacob Roberge

Country: Canada

Proposed Subgenre: Symphonic Prog

Biography:

Jacob Roberge is a Québec-based progressive rock musician, singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist with a background in classical music and orchestration. His work is rooted in the Symphonic Prog tradition, characterized by grand compositions, orchestrations, and instrumental passages.

Roberge initially gained recognition through his YouTube channel, where he showcased his vocal and instrumental talents with covers of artists such as Queen and Genesis. His classical influences are evident in his arrangements and cinematic production, blending rock instrumentation with orchestral elements.

On January 31, 2025, Roberge released his debut album, The Passing, a six-track symphonic rock odyssey spanning approximately one hour, including the title track epic at 32 minutes. The album features a full sonic palette, incorporating strings (violin, cello), brass (trumpet), and layered harmonies

His music blends orchestral movements with progressive rock complexity, evoking influences from Genesis, Yes, The Enid, Transatlantic, and Anglagård, yet with a modern, cinematic approach.

Discography:

Justification for Inclusion on Progarchives:

Jacob Roberge's music exemplifies the core traits of Symphonic Prog, with grand-scale compositions, classical instrumentation, and intricate melodic development. Critics have noted his strong compositional voice and potential to become a major name in modern progressive rock, with reviews highlighting his attention to detail, dynamic shifts, and rich textural depth. Publications such as Notes Reviews, The Progressive Subway, Sea of Tranquility, Prog Radio, and The Prog Corner have praised his ability to craft cinematic and deeply expressive symphonic rock.

Great find Kevin! This is a superb album indeed. I expect this fellow will be added to the archives in a heartbeat, and most likely in Symphonic Prog, as you suggest. Thumbs Up

Awesome!  We hear a lot of new bands here at Prog Radio but now and then something special comes along, and this is one of those times.  What a debut!  Jacob just turned 27.  Can't wait to watch his journey in the coming years.

Yep should be a shoe in. Best guitar work I've heard on an album for ages positioned somewhere between Mike Holmes (IQ) and Dave Gilmour. Very strong album with a 30 minute epic. Is it prog? Is the pope Catholic!
