So I was grooving on Bent Knee and this popped into my head as a fun poll.  Just looking at the artists I have put up it is impossible to choose a favorite.  So I'm gonna allow multiple votes.

German symphonic prog band Hoelderlin have a strong violinist, and Chris Karrer in Amon Düül II plays the violin on occasion with good effect.

Kansas and UK here. I would have picked Big Big Train as well if they were on this list.

From the list, the Mahavishnu Orchestra.  It's hard to pass up Jean-Luc Ponty's solo efforts (Imaginary Voyage, Enigmatic Ocean, Cosmic Messenger, Individual Choice, etc.)

King Crimson, UK and Kansas from this list.  Other additions to the list should be Godspeed You! Black Emperor and A Silver Mt. Zion

Gotta go with MO here...Goodman was just killer in that band and it added so much.

Van der Graaf. Graham Smith's violin on The Quiet Zone / The Pleasure Dome give that album a distinctly different sound from the Van der Graaf Generator albums.
