I?ve been fortunate to play in the states several times with various bands and made many good friends over there. A real character from those times was Norm Nied, known as Uncle Norm, from Chicago. Sadly, Norm died this year after a long battle with cancer. I sent him a copy of Singularity and was in touch with him this year before his death, and like all who knew him, was sad to hear of his passing.

Another pal, Luis Nasser, bass player with Sonos Umbra, had the idea of putting together an album of rare material from bands and people Norm knew and loved, with proceeds going to a charity chosen by Sue, Norm?s wife. He contacted me and I was more than pleased to be asked.

At the same time, we?d been working up the live set for Rain, and had talked about re-arranging the song Singularity. On the album this is very much a production number, lots of synths and samples, and so we agreed to rework it for live, and for Norm?s album.

The version here will only be released on Norm?s album. It was arranged and recorded at Future Primate when we recorded Cult of Personality for Fusion and mixed by Rob Groucutt.

Live music is about a connection with people. Norm will always be remembered at RoSFest and wherever his friends meet. I hope you enjoy this track, and we look forward to seeing you at a gig soon.
