I know some of you are already getting tired of these, but there's some great years coming up, I promise! Unfortunately, no King Crimson (only counting studio albums) but that probably makes it a little easier to vote I guess?
Another Genesis vote for me, beginning to see a pattern emerging...
Previous Poll Winners (so far):
1969: King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
1970: Genesis - Trespass
1971: Yes - Fragile
If you're still with me, thanks for any feedback

This is a bit easier thankfully.
I've narrowed it down to Yes or Genesis, even though TAAB is great too.
Foxtrot it is, overall I prefer it to CTTE although it is close.

Extremely close, within microns of each other:
1 – Close to the Edge
2- Foxtrot
I have to revisit Thick As A Brick, haven’t heard it in
ages.But if I recall correctly it’s not
even in the same league as CTTE or Foxtrot.

Hey this is the "Big Six": 1972 or the "Big Five": 1972 ? I just put aside all the beautiful compositions of Trilogy but The Endless Enigma and it's enough for me to vote for ELP, this fantastic piece of music leave behind all the other entire albums of this selection. But it's important to see so different tastes around here, people who completely dislike the ELP music in general is easy to find in ths forum and I think it's OK.
EDIT: Really no doubt also about my second vote if it were possible: Yes - Close To The Edge.

CTTE,TAAB and Foxtrot are all masterpiece. I will go with Foxtrot.

Yes--a perfect album--Foxtrot is second but suffers from bad production.

Even when Foxtrot isn't scoring high on production, I personally still prefer it to the other albums in the poll, because of the strength of the material.

It's 'Edge, I'm afraid. Yes' most solid piece with Trilogy just on its heels.

1- Yes - Close To The Edge
2- ELP - Trilogy
3- Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
4- Genesis - Foxtrot
5- Pink Floyd - Obscured By Clouds

What year, what a tough choice. Gotta go with Foxtrot. In my mind, Close to the Edge, Trilogy, and Thick as a Brick are also extremely strong. Foxtrot, however, gets more airplay in my household than any of these other offerings.

Another easy vote for me: Genesis' Foxtrot.

ELP are one of the most overrated bands in history. I'd rather listen to anything by Pink Floyd (even the excruciatingly overexposed "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2") over anything by ELP anytime. So, I picked Obscured by Clouds.

No one can Ignore E.L.P abilities and potential specially Emerson key playing but unfortunately E.L.P have "a few" good albums (IMO) BUT never forget their masterpieces in Progressive music history :
E.L.P , TARKUS , TRILOGY and great " http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=1872" rel="nofollow - Brain Salad Surgery "

Tough one. It's really a three-way tie between Yes, ELP and Tull for me, but I'll give it to ELP today. Three legendary albums right there, no debate.

I'll vote Close to the Edge because it needs to catch up to Foxtrot. Come on, it's Close to the Edge for Pete's sake!!

So many classic records at that time; what an incredible year for progressive rock.

Not right away...... ()
Close to The Edge, and by a wide margin for me.

Foxtrot. Maybe it's not the easiest vote, but Foxtrot is essence of progressive rock IMO. Second TAAB from JT and then Yes's CTTE.

3 of my 4 favorite albums (besides Larks which beats CTTE and Foxtrot) are on this last...but I must go with the song that went to number one and constitutes my favorite album ever, Thick as a Brick.

Ugh, could only choose Foxtrot because the question specifically said "favorite."
If it said "best" then a gun to the head would be needed to decide.

I've always considered Foxtrot the weakest of the Gabriel era, but it still fares well with all due respect to the competition. I could've voted for Aqualung over Foxtrot, but that's the wrong year. Thick as a Brick, nice, but doesn't quite surpass it.

My preference would go
CttE > Foxtrot > Obscured > Thick > Trilogy

In 1972 I first heard the album Close to the Edge by Yes. At that time, I thought that this was music at its height of perfection. Now, some 42 years later, I am of the same opinion. If, some day in the distant future, someone looks into the historical records under the topic of "Progressive Rock Music", they will see this:
