So Simon Collins got busted big time for drugs. I was wondering if anyone knew how that would play a factor in that being the end of SOC.

I guess when you have a song called "Not Coming Down" it becomes somewhat autobiographical Embarrassed

Didn't know this but shame really. SOC was a promising project and Collins is the hub of it so I presume it could be in jeopardy. Is he likely to go inside for this? Assume its just possession and not dealing(?)

I do not write reviews often, but the Sound Of Contact was a very inspiring album that was enough for me to put my thoughts from pen to paper....or fingers to keyboard IMO.

It's solid. A bit too lengthy, but for the most part I get its message.
I really love the chorus in I AM (Dimensionaut)

Drugs? Well, it depends on what kind. If you ask me. It doesn't matter. He could have been high as f**k on PCP while making the album and I wouldn't care. I do recreational drugs myself, but mainly psychedelics once in a while so personally the whole drugs thing really wouldn't get to me.
I think it's bogus. I'm sure his dad did a few during his hayday.
I mean come one!

He was busted for dealing I believe. That's a shame too. SOC's debut was awesome.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I like the album a lot, but it does get a bit cumbersome towards the end. That Simon Collins was doings drugs I care nothing about - that is his prerogative. But was dealing his day job?

This is the first I have heard of a drug bust. Too bad. I really like the Sound of Contact album. Hope this does not put an end to the band.  Cry

Perhaps that's part of the reason Kerzner left the band...?

Nick!! Just the other day I was spinning the album, really enjoying it (more and more each time I find), and I randomly thought `I can't remember if Nick reviewed this...', even though I was aboslutely sure you did! I remember our discussions about it! A really fine album with some superb melodic qualities (killer choruses on pretty much every track), but like many people on this thread, I agree it's too long...in fact, I think the album would have been fine without the massive epic at the end, keep that for a second album....ironically, which we may not get now....

Here's a short report on it. The opening line was cute. "The eldest son of rocker Phil Collins is in too deep."

John McEnroe's son has also been busted for a similar offence. That made the UK press while Collins didn't.

Saw SoC in Copenhagen recently and walking home after the concert I seemed to surprise Simon standing outside at the back of the condert hall *smoking*. A roadie quickly went inside Simon hurriedly following. Wink

Unless it was a huge bust, I seriously doubt anything will come of it. Some community service, then back to work.

Sound Of Contact frontman thanks fans for support and emphasises: “Claims were completely untrue”

Simon Collins has confirmed the drug charges levelled against him earlier this year have been dropped, and the police investigation into the matter has been closed.

The Sound Of Contact frontman, son of Genesis’ Phil Collins, http://www.teamrock.com/news/2014-07-06/collins-arrested-on-suspicion-of-drug-dealing" rel="nofollow - was arrested in Wiltshire in July on suspicion of dealing class A drugs.

In a statement to TeamRock, Collins says: “Being arrested was in itself a very confusing experience. To find myself implicated in something so serious has made the last few months extremely difficult, both personally and professionally.

“I am grateful to finally be able to tell you all that these claims were completely untrue, and I am pleased to confirm that the matter in relation to myself was closed by the police at the end of September. No charges were filed against me.

“I’d like to thank all of those close to me, my family, friends and all of my fans who have supported me throughout this difficult and stressful time.”

Collins adds: “I’d now simply like to get back to my life and concentrate on writing material for the new album.”

Excellent news Scott! Thanks for the heads up.
Drugs or not, I'm just glad he's out and ready for a new album.

I am really warming up to the debut, dad-prog or notTongue The ending epic Moebius Slip never leaves my MP3 thingy. Love the rhythms Simon cooks up, somewhere between his father's playing and Danny Carey. Though fluidly and effortlessly played it's still a very tribal expression they add to the music. Gives the otherwise suave nature of it a twang that I really dig.

Certainly good news, as SoC was one of the finer debut albums in a while. Thumbs Up Okay, Simon, you can really aim for the stars now!

I think Dave Kerzner was the main creative force behind SoC - his debut album just released is absolutely superb.

A stellar cast (incl the ubiquitous Steve Hackett), with some big nods to Pink Floyd (particularly in the opener) and ELO late on in the album.

Do give it a go.

That album looks promising! What were the events that led Kerzner to leave the Contact group?

Actually, does anyone know then who the keyboard player will be for the second Sound of Contact album?

I wouldn't know what events lead to Kerzner leaving but he has made the point on a small Facebook group that he wrote most of the material on the SoC album and produced it. He did go on to say that he enjoyed working with the guys and was not suggesting he didn't learn stuff from them....

Personally, I read between the lines, but I might be wrong.
