More for the UK folks here, but has anyone seen "Life of Rock with Brian Pern" (BBC4)?

[For those not in the UK, search YouTube for Brian Pern, there are a few clips on there, but not the whole show.]

It's an attempt to do a "Spinal Tap" type documentary for prog, with the front man as a thinly disguised Peter Gabriel type. Particularly cruel to Genesis!

A few genuine rock musicians crop up as themselves, including Phil Collins, Rick Wakeman, Jools Holland.

It certainly plays to the stereotypes of prog rock musicians of being self-important and taking everything way too seriously. Personally I didn't find it that funny - Spinal Tap did it much better 30 years ago - but I can see the humour in it.

Phil Collins took part as himself in a quite cruel dig at him playing in both Live Aid events in one day. Good to see he's able to laugh at himself there!

What does anyone else think?

It was mildly fun. I enjoyed it but it didn't make me laugh out loud. Best character for me was Michael Kitchen's lawyer/manager persona.

Bigger on the inside.

I did laugh out loud at the very end of the last episode during the Segway jousting sequence. That was funny.

I think that pretty much sums it up for me as well.

Must confess I nearly piddled myself. Quite excellent piss take of Gabriel and Genesis, the online stuff is terrific too. I thought he nailed Gabriel. The constant album delays, the invention of 'World music', the pioneering use of plasticine in a video...great stuff. Oh what I wouldn't give for a Thotch re-union!

First time I saw it, didn't realise it was a joke for the first few minutes Tongue It was at Phil Collins playing "In The Air Tonight" loudly over "Stairway" in Live Aid Smile
