Great Prog Metal from Australia. "Teramaze bring only what can be described as an utterly unique sense of style to the world of metal. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the band’s blend of progressive, melodic and thrash metal has attracted an underground following within local bars and small venues. The band has been polishing their album “AnhedoniA” off since it’s production begun in 2009, as well as performing at various venues within Australia. In terms of style, Teramaze say that they’re influenced primarily by bands such as Dream Theater, Tool and Pantera. With bone crushing riffs, soaring vocals, and a solid rhythm section, the band’s sense of rhythm and feel is evident within their technical, yet tasteful music. The sound of the band is made up of five unique individuals. Vocalist, Brett Rerekura cites Layne Stayley, Devin Townsend, Sebastian Bach and Maynard James Keenan as his main influences. The powerful vocals that he provides to the overall sound of Teramaze is a key element to their sheer power as a melodic, yet heavy band. Guitarist, Dean Wells is greatly influenced by guitarists such as John Petrucci, Marco Sfogli, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman, as is shown by his unique soloing styles, as well as the band’s riffs that compliment the sonic power of guitarist Mathew Dawson. The late Julian Percy provided drums for the album, and his unique style of “fusion hands” and “metal feet” adds to the sheer power of the album. Of course we cannot evaluate only on an album teaser. Please follow the suggestion procedure next time to give us more samples and information. The album is not due until April but we will evaluate on earlier releases. |

Rejected based on previous samples (e.g. Anhedonia), more like technical power metal (see Nevermore are proggier than them).
If you feel the new album is worthy of inclusion please let us know.

I found the new album on spotify so I put Teramaze back in our chart for re-eval EDIT: listening through now, I can't see how this is more progressive compared to previous release - nice power/groove melodic metal with a few progressive leanings, but would not call this progressive metal. See what the rest of the team thinks. |

Just started listening this week to Teramaze's 2015 album Her Halo after reading about them in Prog Magazine. Definitely one of the best progressive metal albums of recent years. \m/ |

| Is it possible to add Teramaze to this website? I see this thread was started years ago. Not sure about the past albums, but their 2015 album Her Halo is definitely progressive metal -- and one of the best progressive metal albums I've ever heard, in fact. |

Having recently bought the new Teramaze album (Her Halo), and listened to it, based on that new album, I too agree they deserve a place in PA (I'm not familiar with their earlier music or their early "thrash metal" period). In fact, having also recently purchased the latest Dream Theater CD, I am thinking that Her Halo is a reasonable "compensation" for the shortcomings of the DT album. HH is not earth-shatteringly original and probably will not appeal to listeners with no liking for mainstream prog metal (DT, Symphony X, etc) but the new album is very well done and their new singer sounds very good too. Eh... I wanted to say 'no' so badly but I think they should be included based on their latest album. I've never heard their other records, but this definitely falls into the realm of prog metal.

No disrespect, Her Halo sounds to me as a very professional, extremely
commercial, melodic power/heavy metal album. I really can't see much
prog structures - smart, groovy, yes. Sure, the riffage can be complex at times and there are longer songs in there but the multitude of 5-min standard melodic power metal songs just does not fit my description of a prog metal album. I have just been through half the album and can't change my mind. However, I am alerting the team to re-listen and will post responses. |

Just FYI, Teramaze is performing next year at ProgPower USA in case that increases their chances of being added to the archives. |
