my father does not have long to live, and is blind to the ridiculous family social political bs around him, which makes it doubly painfull for me, who is the only one that really cares for him as a person.

Hope you're okay by now, Slart.  I was stuck in traffic most of the day and finally bailed out around Powers Ferry Road and I-285.  Made it home the next morning hitchhiking and walking, but my car is still out there.

Ok so in the US they make gin and tonic with lime.  I've become accustomed to this and its very good.  Then I went to england, ordered a gin and tonic and got LEMON.  Whyyyy?  Oh well still good.

I'm up everyday at 4:30 am and in bed by 1 or 2 am the next day. I have 2 boys age 7 and 10...and a daughter turning 13 where upon I am preparing myself for my first heart attack. It is my responsibility to help them with their personal problems, homework, etc....I am booked every weekend with a Rock band until the end of August. I drop them off at the babysitter's (which is a 35 minute drive), drive to the show with my wife , (the singer), finish the show at 2 or 3:00 am, drive back to the babysitter's , carrying them out to a heated car and arrive home at 4 or 5:00 am. I then carry them into the house and tuck them in. If it's a Friday night show..I sleep from 4:30 or 5:30 am to 6:00 am , wake up and take my youngest son to basketball. I let my wife stay in bed and stress to the kids that she is not to be woken up. I fly through the course of a entire day cooking 3 meals for the family, do laundry and dishes, shower..and dress for the Saturday gig. I wake up my wife in the hours of the late afternoon, bringing her coffee and we proceed to drop the children off once again to perform the Saturday night show. I have insomnia and that is a plus..however..sometimes it destroys my body and there is always the possibilty I may pass out somewhere. The band is high pressured with full professional gear, lighting, and management. I'm 57 years old and play Jazz fusion style guitar in a Rock band that is diverse. My wife is an RN working weekdays and while the kids are in school..I practice guitar and give private instruction to a few students. If I get a break..I will go on Progarchives and I know it is simply out of personal interest and my lack of discipline to sleep.. I may not make it to age 60.

I'm pretty worried I won't get into classes I need for the Fall Semester, due to not being a degree seeking student so they don't car... which would kind of really f**k up my plans...but figuring I should worry about the Spring and Summer first.

I've been pretty lonely recently. It comes in waves for me, and it's crashing right now big time. My insides are like all sad and stuff, and I feel a little sick.
At least I'm well over the blaming others/asking why I suck and realize I need to man up and just fix it, just that's always been horribly difficult for me.

Work is going well though, I'm planning on exercising more/getting in shape with nicer weather here, and am planning a trip in May with some friends, so yeah...good and bad!

Taking 3 children shopping is a risk you might have to take when there is no other alternative. People will stare and make silent or voiced judgements about your parenting. This is a child we are talking about and not some media hyped abduction, sexual abuse situation, or murder victim. The welfare people are the most judgemental of all. I find that a higher percentage than the high society families and I've been taking my kids shopping for years. Children are no longer allowed to act like children. If a child is out of line, knocking items off the shelf...and the father puts the child in "time out" I assume everyone confuses that proper act with what's on the news. You can see it in people's eyes. They believe everything in the news. They try to ignore it, but in the same breath..they believe most of it. I have 2 friends who are journalists and it's simply not true. It's a business..hello? Why is this offensive garbage like attitude inflicted upon parents who are caring and would never harm their own children even if their life depended on it? Do that many people actually believe in the press? Is this my imagination? Why are all these judgements placed upon all or most parents today? It's very moronic to ask most people in the world to suffer the blame for what the population of psycho's do.

It's moronic and it angers me that I'm forced to deal with it. "Well...the news said this and did you hear about the school shooting? and blah, blah...I don't care to be part of your 21st century media hype. I'm always open for suggestions, but a majority of people are plain ignorant and tend to forget what a child is. New Jersey laws are ridiculous and the protection of your child in schools and by the police is questionable. The many times my children were dumped off ..in front of my house ...as the school bus drove away...and I had called hours before stating that I would be picking them up. I had to race across town ..only to find them standing on the steps...freezing and scared out of their little minds. But there is always an excuse or a method of turning the situation around and pointing the finger at you....asking.."Are you sure that you called?" Maybe the staff worker had a hangover that day and didn't recall my conversation?  It's ignorant.

My son watched The Three Stooges and he witnessed Curly choking himself ...as a joke...as a means to make fun of himself. My son was sent down to the office for doing it in class. The school phones me up and requests to meet with me in 1 hour. I arrived , was seated at a table that included a child psychologist, 2 teachers, the principal and a few other staff members. They asked me..."Do you allow your son to watch "The 3 Stooges?" I answered  "Yes". They went on to state that "The 3 Stooges" are a bad influence on children. My son was 8 years old...which was the age I first discovered The Stooges and along with friends, it never seemed to bring us any real harm or dark knowledge as it seems. This was an attack on me personally and I said "I noticed a lot of kids wearing "SpongeBob" shirts in your school". How did they feel about Spongebob? They defended it. They stated that their own children watched Spongebob and that it was harmless. I wasn't exactly coming across like "Jack Black" in the "School of Rock" if you know what I mean? They defended it because Spongebob hails from their generation. It can do no wrong to the child's mind. It cannot corrupt it. In 1 particular episode, Spongebob wants to make an ice cream soda and hasn't the ingredients. Instead he uses a plant , dirt, and anything else he can think of for the mixture. Would you want your kid to emulate that situation? To imitate it? Something is very wrong here.

I've had one of those weeks where I've done more or less every thing I've planned to, something that last happened a month ago, but at the same time I'm really really exhausted at the end of it.

The best thing is that I got to see Dieter Moebius, Neu! and Tangerine Dream live Thursday evening. Be sure to expect a concert review on this forum later this weekend.

Just noticed this thread-Well for those who might possibly be interested,i got my left eye poked pretty good at work yesterday & had to be taken to the ER.I was cutting a tree limb that was hanging down into a county road so low it had been hitting vehicles.Anyway i stood on the road bank just off the road, cut the limb with a chainsaw & as i turned a sharp pointed broken limb from a tree next to me jabbed right in the left eye.Didn't hit the pupil or iris, but just missed. Now the white of my eye is blood red.I have a corneal abrasion,so friday wasn't a good day.Yes i know i should have had safety glasses on,but i didn't so lesson learned.

Good day yesterday, lucky day in fact. While working out on the county roads a co worker and i came across a nice bunch of white morel mushrooms(hickory chickens as they are known in slang here).I found one that was nearly 10 inches tall which is exceptional. For those of you who don't know-these shrooms won't get you high, but fried up they make a delicious side dish.I'll be having these for supper tonight.Plus the co worker & i will not be sharing the secret of where we found these, not even with any of our other co workers.

I'm having a pretty good week, which put me in mind of this topic.

I had a nice trip down the Oregon coast, and then stayed at a waterpark hotel -- kids loved it. I've been out pruning the roses while listening to The Wicker Man soundtrack. Saw a British zombie movie last night on Netflix, The Girl With All the Gifts, that I enjoyed very much.

Work is going fairly well, even though my forgetfulness has made it harder than it used to be. I just can't take on as many projects as I once did. I'm off out shortly to go kayaking. Life is quite good and I'm trying harder to make the most of it.

Just got back from a trip to Malheur. One of the most remote spots in the lower 48 states. Great camping and hiking. The bird migration is happening but it was not up to past year standards. Bird count was 166 different birds. The highlight was either the green heron or the baby great horned owls.
