(Almost put pervert as a joke choice, but was afraid too many would choose it!)

Read a book a month or two back called Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking.
One might guess from that which one I am.

Seems to me that many introverts wish they were more extraverted.  Not me, I'm fairly happy as I am.  just shut up!  LOL

(I probably should have made a third option of "superextravert" for Guldbamsen.  Big smile)

Introvert, but I'm happier in small groups of close friends then when I'm alone.

Both - Introvert in unknown situations, extrovert within my comfort zone.

http://www.theguardian.com/science/quiz/2012/mar/13/quiz-are-you-an-introvert" rel="nofollow - Quiz: are you an introvert?

The introverts shall in inherit the earth, if it's okay with you guys; if everyone's not too busy I can do next Wednesday or maybe August if that's inconvenient, or we can meet in the Village Hall if it is raining unless some people don't mind getting wet then I'm not that bothered sometimes it can be quite refreshing if its not too cold and I can see the advantages in that because it can get a little oppressive when everyone is waiting for everyone else to arrive before we start because then we'd have to start all over again and that wouldn't be fair for all those who turned up early, not that anyone would of course because no one wants to be the first to arrive in fact on reflection I cannot see that anyone will even turn up at all so I think I'll just stay at home and blog about it.

Introvert. While I acknowledge that a certain amount of socialization is needed, I tend to try for as little as possible. I don't feel unproductive when I'm not doing any work. I hate answering the phone. I feel like seven people is a crowd. In social situations, I suffer from sensation overload and notice a lot of weird things like body language, who's walking in the room, what song is playing, that the door is squeaking loudly— all except (sometimes) what the other person is saying!

If you have the time to listen to three epics in a row and then also log onto the net to talk about it rather than catch up with friends, you would have to be an introvert.  It would be interesting if somebody voted extrovert on this poll, as to how he/she reconciles that with an appetite for prog.

I am definitely an extrovert in company and introverted and reflective when I am alone. I guess that makes me a "metrovert" LOL.  My lengthy drive to work allows for extended listening. In addition, my wife and daughter are usually asleep far earlier than me.  Since I am a night owl, I have plenty of time in the wee hours to devote to music and writing.

You don't have to be an introvert to appreciate good music.

I have much of the same experience but still will call myself an introvert because my comfort zone is typically small groups/close friends.  I think a lot of people including myself fall into the middle ground you describe, and the difference between them is one of degree more than kind.

Introvert, definitely.

I looked it up on the internet and it is not that introverts cannot be sociable, but it costs them more energy. That applies to me. I meet a lot of people, even have a social profession, but it costs me quite some energy.

Read carefully.  I didn't say good music.  I said three epics in a row, as an example.  That's what, an hour's worth of music.  A hardcore extrovert would much rather spend that time with friends or acquaintances, because he likes to be with people.

I do have to wonder if there are mostly introverts here because prog listeners are mostly introverts, or because computer forum users are mostly introverts.  (Or something else?)

probably the latter, from what i've seen introverts are always over represented on such polls on the internet.

My brother is an extravert and likes to listen to albums with people, including some prog music. Also, live music. A lot of extraverts like to combine the best of both worlds. I, being a polar opposite in many ways, prefer to listen to music alone, and prefer studio albums over live shows any day.

Tough one cos there is nothing like groovin to the Gates Of Delirium with another Yes fanSmile
Or watching Pink Floyd Pulse on DVD with a few good folk.

On the whole I find the musical journey to be mostly a solo one, Hymns to the Silence

Introvert, no doubt, but with some elements of open-ness in my nature. Like Polymorphia ( ^ ), I prefer to listen to music alone and prefer studio albums over live ones. I'm one of the less talking guys in any gathering of people. It's not the same thing as being shy, though naturally shyness and 'introvertness' (or what's the word form) usually go hand in hand. A person seemingly more extrovert than me can be - at least on some situations - more shy, on one way or another. Does this sound credible...?

LOL Where did you get that idea from?

In all honesty, I believe all people have a bit of both. It's just down to the given surroundings, people and what kind of mental state one is in.
I had to look up extravert, because I thought it meant extra green (vert is green in French)Tongue Just kidding... I did however look it up in case I was missing something. I was.... I don't particularly subscribe to the definition of extrovert, as I live equally much in my own head - as I do in company with other people. I can be extremely self-centred and negligent of the world - build myself a fortress and just listen to music for days on end not talking to anybody.
Then again, if you place me in a room with 20 people I've never met; I'll have spoken to everybody inside 30 minutes for sure. Hell I talk like a machine gun when I'm with other people, though I tend to think of myself as one who is capable of sticking my finger in the dirt and pick up on the general consensus - who's turn is it to talk, is it time for me to shut my face and roll out the ol eardrums.
I think I learned a lot from working with kids actually. Strike that, I learned a lot from my colleaguesLOL A fair estimate of the gender mix is probably 90 percent women and then 5 percent men and the last part somewhere in betweenTongue Anyway, sitting in a lunch room with 20 odd women who all want to talk to you and hear the one mail opinion on something, has taught me to listen more intensely. (Alright, it has also learned me to shut down, when The Bold & The Beautiful suddenly starts doing live re-runs in front of meDead)

Alright, I'll vote for extrovert - I am pretty good with people in real life situations. I have no problem in acting out and humiliating myself in public either, which I think is one of the things people dig the most about me. Always ready to take one for the teamEmbarrassed
My main advice to folks(mostly the teens) on here, who would like to be less introverted would probably be to shut off their computers and take a walk. Most of the times I feel introverted it's because I've spent far too much time in front of the computer. Just like in every other aspect of life, communication - like in face to face communication - takes some training. If you spend two thirds of your life in front of a screen moaning over your own failure to be outgoing and talkative, how on earth is any of that going to change?
I know there are some who have all kinds of diagnoses, but I don't believe in half of those if I'm honest. I have met so many people who use these diagnoses as an excuse to live their lives, simply because it's too hard work. I am not saying all are like that, but I do know quite a few.

Hmm....probably about 50/50 for me though more extrovert than intro.
Dealing with the public daily one learns to be sociable and outgoing since it helps business....but at home or with strangers I'm a bit more intro depending on the situation.
