Am I the only one who thinks that Ommadawn shouldn't be the highest rated Mike Oldfield album on PA? For instance, I find Tubular Bells quite substantially better on many grounds although it's not one of my all-time favourites. I thought I'd do this poll to settle it and see (just regarding Tubular Bells). Please comment on what you like/dislike on both albums if you have heard them.
Thanks for any feedback

Tubular Bells, obviously. Part 1 of Ommadawn may be a masterpiece that almost shines out Tubular Bells (as far as this is possible), but part 2 turns me off.

I prefer Ommadawn, possibly my favourite Oldfield album apart from Incantations.

Ommadawn is top 5 all-time for me, I put Hergest Ridge ahead of TB.

I vote Ommadawn, and I agree about Hergest Ridge. A great album and better than Tubular Bells imo.

It used to be Ommadawn, but these days I prefer TB.
BTW, Hergest Ridge is my favorite Oldfield album

Both aren't the best Oldfield's albums IMO. Incantations is my choice in the early period, then I absolutely love Platinum from the 80s and Song Of Distant Earth from the 90s,,,(And I think I'll spin it now...I'm in the right mood for it).
------------- I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I rate Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge over Tubular Bells and those are my favourite three from him. Can't say I like anything else he's done though.

TB only because of the incredible impact it had when played on RADIO in Montreal. That was the very first time a rock station took such a bold plunge and it was magic!

Tubular Bells slightly because it's like, you know, soooo tubular.

Tubular Bells above Ommadawn, but I much prefer Discovery and the Lake, Crises, Five Miles Out and QE2.
Makes me an heretic, I guess!

Part 2 of TB is a bit weak imo, but Ommadawn is a masterpiece from beginning to end!

I love both albums. Tubular Bells has more minutes of music that I like, since I like very much at least half of the second side (and all of the first side), while I feel there isn't so much to love on the second side of Ommadawn... however, there isn't anything there that I dislike as much as The Caveman and the Sailor's Hornmpipes. Still, the most important thing is that Side 1 of Ommadawn is among the most perfect pieces of music on prog that I've heard, so I go with that album.

I much prefer Hergest Ridge (any and every version) or Incantations over both of these.
