Following on from the recent suggestion for http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=96449" rel="nofollow - Láquesis , we now take a look at another band from the same town of Rosario, who actually started out much earlier in 1995 - releasing their debut album 11 years ago back in 2002. La Barca is a band of progressive and symphonic rock from the Argentina city of Rosario, formed in 1995, that by the end of March 2002 released their debut album, and in 2011 released their follow up. Started as a group of friends who had been brought up from an early age with the music of Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, Supertramp, Deep Purple, Genesis, Vox Dei and Aquellarre - they came together to make music - and evolved into a band with a progressive profile, having a solid foundation of bass and drums, a brilliant combination of guitars, voice and keyboards, ultimately becoming the band formed by musicians from other bands such as Sygma, Spirit, Pablo el Enterrador, Otoñal, Irreal, etc. Equally important are the lyrics, which relate the everyday stories of the pain of marginalization, poverty and other social problems and humanitarian issues. I'll have crossover take a look at them, but they sound a bit more like prog-tinged hard rock than anything.

I guess that shows just how little I really understand about these various sub genres, and indeed what actually constitutes prog in the first place.

I have to vote NO for Symphonic.
I grew with this music, it's Melodic Argentinean Rock, not remotely Prog IMO BTW; They were rejected by Symphonic many years ago and also by Prog Related -------------

Thanks for posting back here Iván, and confirming what others have concluded regarding this band. I guess I need to enrol on a course at a local college or somewhere on 'how to identify prog'!
