Looks like one of those awful TFK covers. Everything Portnoy has been apart of hasn't been any good sooo ermm.

Though I've never liked Transatlantic so I'm a bit biased.

Say what! 5 songs on the album, that's way too many songs! It means they have to limit their music to 16 minutes per song (because their albums MUST be almost 80 minutes long) to be if they want to keep everything epic.

All well, they can still go for another 30 min epic like they did with their debut. Looking forward to it!

LOL this.  And the live album they release from the tour will have to be 4 CDs by this point (not including the DVDs)

Actually, there are two epics and three "normal" songs, according to the band.

^ So are we looking at two 30 min songs and three 6 minute tracks?

There is even a San Francisco show. Unbelievable.

I'm trying to work out which one will be Neil's `vague Christian ballad in disguise' track! I'm going with either `Shine' or `Beyond The Sun'!

I still think the cover partly reminds me of Santana band's `Borboletta'?? Would be pretty cool if this Transatlantic album is very jazz/fusion heavy, make for a nice change!

Excited for this, but the cover is a catastrophe. Quite a shame since their other covers have been pretty cool.

But guys, it's a kaleidoscope! That's what you're supposed to see!

I am a bit disappointed that I'll have to drive 4 hours to The Arcada Theatre to see them though. Tongue

The cover is alright, although I miss the futuristic Blimp
'We All Need Some Light' and 'Bridge Across Forever' were beautiful Morse songs - I appreciate these 'profound' moments amongst all the technical flash. What I have never gotten into is 'Suite Charlotte Pike' - it lets down an otherwise brilliant set of songs....

Yeah, not a fan of the cover either. Should have just made another one with the blimp.

Excited for the album though; the band hasn't let me down yet.

Actually, guys, looking at it now, I'm pretty sure that spiral of blue IS made up of the blimp!

Oh, yeah. I think I read a few months ago... well, when the band announced they would start working on a new album, that they would have a covers disc too (for a special edition, I guess). But now with this new announcement they haven't said anything more about it. Anyone knows is they are still up to that covers CD too?

I see 12 blimps in the picture.

I enjoyed some TFK's cover arts, although the artwork for the inlay pieces are usually aweful. This new TA album cover looks like they are a happier version of Tool.

Seriously if anyone connected to the band is raeding this, can you please tell the band to stop recycling the blimp from first album? At least get an artist to work on a new image or new angel of the same blimp. It's now used three times + 12 for this new cover. This old blimp is running toward an expiry date.

[edit] Having said all that, i'll definitely buy a new Transatlantic album anytime.

This album looks very good. I was worried, given the band's recent trajectory, that their next album would be called "Give your life to Jesus." I am glad that Neal Morse seems able to participate in a project with a little more thematic diversity.

Thanks for pointing out the blimps, I didn't notice that before.  I don't mind the cover, and it's a kaleidoscope, so I guess it makes sense.  To be honest, I never was all that crazy about their covers (album covers OR cover songs, for that matter).  This one puts me in mind of the horrid photo shop type covers that were so prevalent on prog albums of the late 90's.

As to the Flower Kings album covers, I MUCH prefer just about all of theirs to any of the TA covers (there are exceptions though).

As to the tour, I won't be satisfied unless they play all the albums in their entirety.........a truly epic performance lasting almost 24 hours!!!!   WinkLOL

There is nothing wrong with that........Prog is littered with religious overtones in both negative and positive messages. Hidden and in your face lyrics, at least you know he is honest in his lyrics.

With many others I wonder what they are actually thinking...

I already got my tickets to see them on early february. I just hope I can get the album on time to listen to it enough times to enjoy the new songs. And I hope they play a lot from The Whirlwind... if only they played it all again I would really love it, but I don't have very high hopes about that possibility.

Video of track two, 'Shine', has beeen uploaded to YouTube:

Pre-orders for 'Kaleidoscope' start on Dec 10th: http://www.radiantrecords.com" rel="nofollow - www.radiantrecords.com . Smile

Mike Portnoy had this to say about the video: "Here it is...the very first Transatlantic music video! We shot this video this past Sept in London the day after the Progressive Music Awards. What a beautiful setting it was to shoot in! Picking a song to do a video for wasn't easy as most TA songs are about 30 minutes...hahaha! But Shine was a cool choice as it’s such a beautiful song with all 4 of us sharing the vocals.
Enjoy!"

That sounded like a generic, cheesy, radio-friendly Evangelical Christian soft rock song. Seriously, I hope their epics have more energy and less offensive lyrics.
