Welcome to the forum least likely to provide answers for that question.

I wonder if Dave even remembers.

He posts here, though, under the pseudonym "Tony R", so if you see him around, just ask!

Wrong musical style yes, but the knowledge base on here is pretty awesome. In fact, I bet someone on here can answer that question, though it's certainly not me. Mind you, could it be a trick question - the ride cymbal isn't very grunge, is it? Did he use a ride cymbal in Nirvana?

Maybe TheProgtologist can ... I'm a guitarist.

BTW: Dave Grohl is a great musician. The Foo Fighters really rock!

I believe he used a Zildjian 22" Ping ride cymbal.

On another note, check this quote from Mr Grohl:

" That summer, one of my cousins gave me Rush's 2112, and I don't know how, but I could tell what each individual piece of the drum kit was doing."

the guy likes prog, as well as being influenced by the DC hardcore scene!!

I like the Probot album - nice interpretations of metal songs. It wouldn't surprise me if he did some prog covers in the future.

He's a talented guy.  I'm not a huge fan of the Foos, but I appreciate what they're doing.  Nate Mendel on bass and the previous drummer, William Goldsmith, are amazing musicians.
