^ I don't think it's bizarre to see a prog legend such as yourself in a kids' restaurant.
Oh, no, wait, ... you've already seen that one.

Anyone who has a copy of Rush's Grace Under Pressure should know this one. My favorite of the trio - maybe because it's such a fluffy picture for such a dark album
I don't remember which one it was but one of the band is quoted saying that the picture looks like it's from a bar mitzvah

Interesting you say that. I do know for a fact that acid was involved... That house in the background is Tony Stratton Smith (head of Charisma Records)'s house, where the band stayed and rehearsed for the album. They certainly did 'drop' a few times during that period but it wasn't, as Mojo magazine stated, a period "saturated in LSD." Mojo and media people like to refer to the Pawn Hearts phase as a massive acid era for the group (hyperbole which adds to the legend, but is totally overblown). The band told me that there were a few occasions where they did do acid together around this time, but not all the time and not even that often. The photographer was Keith Morris, who also did all the classic Nick Drake photo shoots. Oh, and the house was supposed to be seriously haunted.

During their German tour of '71, there was a statue of Stormtroopers outside of their hotel room in Kaiserslauten (sp?). They couldn't understand it (it seemed to be glorifying that whole sordid thing). Plus, this was '71 and their labelmates, Monty Python, were taking the piss and having a laugh at Nazi Germany at every opportunity, so the young VdGG figured Germany was ripe for ridicule and decided to imitate the statue they saw. Jaxon told me that they were at that age where you'd think something like that is funny, but he said it's really not. It's just that at that age, you have to go to the absolute edge (especially if you were VdGG!!!), and they did!
