Just thought i'd say hello to everyone and introduce myself..

Been making my way through the back catalogues of prog  and I need guidance!

Primarily im into jam based music but have become obsessed with prog the past year or so.

Figured this was the place to come!

Anyway hope to discover some great bands through this place.

See you around Thumbs Up

Welcome. With your rather brief description as a guide, I suspect that Swedish My Brother the Wind might be a band that would interest you.

Sorry for the brief intoduction I was planning on making a thread in the recommendations forum put it appears I do not have the correct priviledges?

The main reason I joined up is that I'm searching for a band that is similar to 70's era Genesis.

Ive been working my way through all the solo records including the Phillips stuff which is all great!

However im trying to find a prog band who like genesis put more emphasis on the song writing rather than virtuosity etc. Whenever I search I just get the same old Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull suggestions but I ahve allof their Cd's.

Was hoping you guys may be a bit more knowledgable of what is actually out there.

Any Suggestions?

Quite a few bands might fit such a description. I'll start with one of my local favorites - Nordagust.

Then there's Phideaux of course.

...and what about Pendragon?

You hit the nail on the head there with Phideaux!

Thanks a lot thats just the sort of stuff im into!

Im not as into the Progressive Metal side of things. Having said that I was reading a thread on the forum earlier and someone recommended Ayreon - The Human Equation.

Listened to the whole thing online and was totaly blown away!

Jaw dropping stuff, im going to order the cd when I get home from work.

What year is that Phideaux track from?

Phideaux's Snowtorch?  Hmmm, 2011 or thereabouts. http://phideaux.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow - You can explore his entire (massive) discography on Bandcamp.

Great, I thought it had a 70's kind of feel which is what I love in my prog.

Hard to find with a lot of more recent  bands I find they tend to use heavily distorted guitars etc.

I love metal but not so much in prog.

Thanks for the link that should keep me buys for a while!

Try Kyrie Eleyson, sounds like Genesis.

Yeh thats the Austrian band right?

I came across them when I was looking for Genesis-like bands a while back.

Thought i'd hit the jackpot but the more I listened I found it no to be that interesting really.

Maybe I was listening to the wrong stuff!
