Some of your records we're not so familiar to me, but here's my thoughts about some of them. I quess I'll restrain giving any stars. ELP - Brain Salad Surgery The starter "Jerusalem" is very emotional and fine hymn, you could march to war along this. But the greatest feature is "Tocatta", imaginative and full of things to follow. This could be the war where you were marching to... King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King Classic. I own this, but seldom listen to it. I think there are better versions of "Schizoid Man" f.ex. on 60's BBC recordings and on Wetton era live-recordings. "I Talk to The Wind" and "Epitaph" are perfect recordings of these songs, nothing too much or too less. The B-side of the LP feels little more boring to me, but this album has great a historical and aestethic value. Yum! Änglagĺrd - Hybris Nice swedish prog classic, which I believe started the KC-mellotron oriented prog scene in Sweden, no? I liked their "Epilog" little more, but there's nothing wrong with this one either. Perhaps it only little over-hyped? VdGG - Pawn Hearts This album didn't quite open to me. I like VdGG's "Godbluff" much, but that ain't so dissonant and anarchistic like this. I think all of the tracks on "Pawn Hearts" start wonderfully, but they venture so far that I can't follow with them. Well, maybe I'm only too neurotic to survive the trip they are offering! Yes - Relayer Goodie from beginning to start! "Sound chaser" is their best song IMO. Great covers too... Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway I used to listen this lots when I was in high school. Try to find some live recordings from the tour where they played this! Some of the moments are much, much better on stage than on the studio release. Basil Poledouris - Conan The Barbarian (soundtrack) Ha, this is also nice! I used to dig the movie as a kid, but I think I have seen it so many times, that I got bored of it. Perhaps I'm also nowadays interested about different kind of films... If you ever have opportunity to listen SERGEY PROKOFIEV's soundtrack to the 30's film "Alexander Nevsky", try it! The Conan soundtrack has some nearly straight quotations of it, like the Conan movie has from that Eisenstein's movie. Give my greetings to Zdenęk Miler, if you see him! |

Nope... I just like different music to you. Camel sounds like elevator music, Genesis has never ever stirred anything in me, I simply can't get worked up about them. TBH, I'm being generous - those points were awarded on the strength of musical competence alone. |

really interesting that almost of you is not big fan of the lamb (3/4, 4/5, even 3/10 hh) Connan is film of course, but there is lot of nice instrumental songs.... it is absolute perfect imho ! The best soundtrack ever. |

Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother (6.5/10 - underrated album) ELP - Brain Salad Surgery (8.5/10-best thing they did) Comus - First Utterance (never 'erd of it) King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King (4/10 - most overrated album in here) Gryphon - Midnight Mushrumps (dont know) Eloy - Ocean (7.5/10 - best of their albums) Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel IV Security (6/10 - some good stuff, but not all) Queen - Queen II (6/10 - one their better albums) Anthony Phillips - The Geese And The Ghost (never heard it, was always curious) IQ - The Wake (8/10 - one of their best) Le Orme - The Collage (dont know it) Anglagard - Hybris (4/10 - another overrated album, I saw them in LA in '93, OK but not amazing) Ange - La Cimetičre Des Arlequins (6.5/10 - good French album) Camel - Mirage (5.5/10) VDGG - Pawn Hearts (4/10 - like it, but never got used to Hammill's voice) PFM - Per Un Amico (7.5/10 - best Italian prog band I think) Yes - Relayer (9/10 my fave Yes studio album, wonderful) Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (7.5/10 - a flawed masterpiece) Gentle Giant - Acquiring The Taste - never liked them. |

Some good choices there (as well as a few I haven't heard) but what's missing? I'd definitely add Caravan, Strawbs, Babe Ruth (well First Base), Third Ear Band, possibly Soft Machine and Traffic, selected Hawkwind and a few more obscure such as Marsupilami and Gnidrolog. Lot's more out there but those come to mind
