View Stalls Row xx (up in the Gods)

Programme including the Raven story good value for £10 but not essential if you have the album with booklet.

A quite staggeringly good concert. Two and a quarter hours of non stop high quality audio and visual magnificence. The backdrops (upon which images were projected) both at the back and later in the set at the front were particularly effective .

Tough to pick anyone out because all of the muscians were superb but I thought the keyboard player Adam Holzman and Theo Travis on saxophone and flute were exceptional.

Sorry if this is somewhat effusive but it was really that good. The songs were mainly drawn from his latest LP The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories). All tracks from that album were played.

Musically for me many Van der Graaf and King Crimson reference points sprinkled with Floydian motifs which Steven has welded into his own unique sound

Hard to pick a favourite as there were no weaknesses but highlights for me the bleak and disturbing Raider II based on the BTK serial killer Dennis Raider, the fantastic epic The Watchmaker and The Raven that refused to sing and to round it off the early PT number Radioactive Toy as encore.

If you get a chance this is a must see. Amazing. 10 out of 10.

Line Up

Guthrie Govan / lead guitar
Nick Beggs / bass guitar

Insurgentes live? Hell, that's just wonderful, it's one of the most beautiful melodies he ever did.

I'm planning on seeing his show in my town this April, thanks for the review.

IMO, employing Beggs, Govan and especially Minneman to play the likes of Radioactive Toy is a bit  like driving an 18-wheeler to a dry cleaners 2 blocks away. But, if that is what the fans desire ...

Unless I am mistaken, Minnemann is not touring with Wilson on the East Coast.

The tour programme states Chad Wackerman is playing drums in the Americas. Minnemann is just on the European leg.

I'm glad I got to see the original lineup last year.....Minnemann was excellent! He gave my wife one of his drum sticks, actually handed it to her as we were standing front and center stage.
