Looking for music in that sort of emotional, new-agey, spacey progressive sound, in the vein of recent Anathema. I've also had some luck in Atoma, iamthemorning, even stuff like Era would not be out of place here.

instrumental totally cool, Peter Gabriel's Long Walk Home and Mike Oldfield's chiller stuff would apply as well

A band by the name of Glass Kites, will do the job for you. They released their debut album, Glass Kites, in 2012 and it ranked among my Top 10 for the year.

Plus, you can get it here for free (though it's worth paying for!)

All of the songs are on YouTube, but like i said. The album is free digitally anyway.

I think you would love Frequency Drift.  Ghosts and Laid to Rest both have what you are looking for.  Their debut album is also very good.

Glass Kites seem really cool! Just got the album from bandcamp, thanks!
I'll give Frequency Drift a look after too!

Slowly (Home) should be emotional enough for you.
Cry

But it's a favorite of mine. Lovely lyrics.

Weather Systems was my favourite album of last year so I'm quite interested in this thread as well. I wonder if Gazpacho might fit the bill? I have the album Night. Good stuff.

Just got into them last year with Weather Systems and they are great.  Got WHBWH as well then just got in the mail Monday a 3 CD set with Judgement, A fine day to exit and Natural Disaster in one package but haven't listened to any of them yet because Raven that Refused to sing and a Vanden Plas album came as well. Can't wait.

Once I hear them I may weigh in with more but Ghosts from Freq Drift is indeed a good recommendation. Haven't picked up the new FD yet.

Votum's album Metafiction has very similiar tracks to Anathema.  I just got it today, and it sounds great!  They had a sticker on the shrink wrap that said Fans of Anathema, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree will enjoy this.

Also quite a recent fan of Anathema. Recommend Falling Deeper which is a reworking of some of their older "doom-Metal" stuff , but done in a more softer, ambient way ( similar to a lot of their recent stuff )

I will also agree with Gazpacho, and you can add Airbag and Sylvan to that list.

If you're not familiar with them, I'd recommend Katatonia. Particularly their latest album "Dethroned and Uncrowned", which is a stripped back to bones re-working of their previous studio album "Dead End Kings". Both are superb and fascinating to see how different those songs are with the heaviness stripped away from them.
