What is your favorite song from King Crimson's debut "In The Court of the Crimson King-An Observation by King Crimson"? Mine is "The Court of the Crimson King".

Schizoid for me.
Epitaph is second although it sounds very similar to something On Deep purples third album
The title song is fairly good but there's too much reverb going on imo.
I don't really like the other 2 songs.
In the wake is a better album.

Schizoid Man.   Interestingly (maybe to me), my order of preference of the songs on the album is the same as the track order.

Epitaph is the only King Crimson song I really like; the title track is also very pleasant.

I used to rate the album quite highly, but no more: it has not aged well.

That analogy falls apart with me.  I actually prefer women with smaller boobs (they don't sag as they get older).  On the other hand, I do prefer ITC to ITWOP.  Wink

Well, your preference for boobs and preference for the albums don't have to correlate. But in both cases, some find the option that most don't prefer better.

eh to me In The Wake is just an inferior less focused attempt at creating the magic that was on the debut. still some good songs but probably my least favorite of the classic records, although i might like it more than starless and bible black

I agree with dr. prog here In The Wake though a little bit of a retread is better of In The Court, Cadence and Cascade is better than I Talk To The Wind and the Devils' Triangle is just better than Moonchild though still horrid at least it has a story book quality to it unlike In The Court Tongue

Epitaph and court are lacking the colour of the above slightly and schizoid is a bit of a Beatles copy during the verses. The debut album is a bit raw.

Bloody lake should have stayed for lizard and islands. Giles too. Those albums would have been better and the band would have been more settled. We may have seen a 1972 studio album too. Tippet, sinfield and Collins hung around for lizard and islands.

i hope that's not meant to be a serious insult... gonna call me a beta male next?

some of your logic is questionable to me... "schizoid is a bit of a Beatles copy during the verses"? really? feels like you're just grasping for any possible reason to say it's worse than In The Wake

Epitaph, although 21st Century Schizoid Man is breathtaking as well. I love Mike Giles' drumming on Epitaph.

In The Wake of Poseidon always felt to me like a repetition of the formula of the debut, but with none of the magic. I don't know exactly why, but it just doesn't work. So while the debut is one of my favorite albums of all time, In the Wake is not even in my top five King Crimson albums.

Anyway it's a close call between 21st and I Talk To The Wind but I'm going with the mellow masterpiece.

I voted for "Moonchild". "In the Wake of Poseidon" is a bit like "In the Court of the Crimson King", and some tracks can even be directly compared to tracks from the predecessor. ("Pictures of a City" is like "21st Century Schizoid Man", "In the Wake of Poseidon" is like "Epitaph" and "Cadence and Cascade" is like "I Talk to the Wind". But "Cat Food" (the best track on "Wake") and "The Devil's Triangle" don't really have an equivalent on "Court", and the little "Peace" tracks add a nice flavour.

I'll add my support for Moonchild as well. In my opinion, it is utterly necessary to have those 12 minutes of quietness before the intensity of the title track. It works perfectly on the album.

No. I can appreciate it and I can appreciate the political message, but I find that it is out of place in the album. I listen to the album when I am after something light, and a little majestic, and I usually don't feel like listening to 21st Century Schizoid Man.

This is coming from someone who spent $40 on the vinyl remaster.

True, but I thought all tracks (except for Moonchild) would end up with almost the same amount of votes, and not such a big difference.

What? No! Impossible. No crash and burn what-so-ever.

Among other things, I love the flute on the title track, which is another reason why it's my favorite. The way I'll order my favs below don't quite do it justice, because there isn't a track on this album I dislike at all.

I suggest you read my reviews on KC  to gain a better understanding on my view of the album and the band in general. Don't know what they will do for you but just look at them

I have looked at them... i also don't understand why you are recommending that I look at them to understand your views on KC better when the whole point of my previous statement was that you have made your stance on KC very very clear to everyone.

I would like to hear a more detailed analysis of the title track from ProgMetaller and what he doesn't like about it. Preferably in 500 words or more.

If it slows down his relentless posting in KC threads it would be a blessing.

Not only that but the posts imply he doesn't understand the point being made, oh the irony.

I think the first part of that response is a matter of perspective, from the viewpoint of most of the rest of us you are pretty relentless. On the second point you seem to think you can prove something that is a subjective matter of taste. Lots of people have different tastes than you, this does not make them wrong.

Ask Andrey (Dayvenkirq), I have some brain farts at times just like everyone else. I'm not afraid to admit it

You implicitly said that I'm one passionate Prog Rock and Music fan by being relentless Wink You are right and I give you a Clap. I think you guys are letting my opinions get into you heads and that's just plain silly. You guys love this album and this band don't see why you guys can't continue on without me. I DON'T LIKE KC(Don't see why you guys can't see or accept it).

I haven't relentlessly posted on KC threads in over a month. This thread came up and I decided to give my opinion about it and I never intended to cause this Disapprove but I guess you won't allow me to have my opinions instead we get thellama73 giving me a musical midterm or final(speaking of which I gotta get back to reading and studying) Sleepy

When did I ever say you guys were wrong???I don't think I ever have said that. Point it out for me and then come back. I love how you guys are relentless as well and how thellama73 wants me to give an analysis of In The Court of 500 words or more LOL  you just said that the subject of music is a subjective matter, I'm allowed to have opinions am I not  LOL oh the irony
LOL

Seems I've caused a ruckus. Shocked

Progmetaller, I do want to make it clear that while I did clearly disagree with your crash and burn comment, I was by no means trying to degrade your opinion. It was meant merely as a teasing disagreement, because regardless of my opinion, I do respect the opinions of others.

And frankly, I haven't a clue how you feel about King Crimson in general, but I may go check out your reviews when I get a chance. Cool

Thanks Clap  can't we all just respect others opinions. If you do look into my reviews on KC you will see that I'm being completely frank and honest about them, I don't badmouth anyone I give credit where credit is due
