We are very happy to announce that
Ray Wilson, named by Classic Rock Magazine one of the greatest
British vocalists of all time, will record his first official live
DVD in February. The event will take place on February, 22nd in
Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, Poland where Ray will join the line-up
of “An evening at the Theatre”. Other bands confirmed for that night are
RPWL and Clive Nolan's Alchemy project. Due to
unforeseen circumstances The Paul Menel Band’s show has been
cancelled.
The year 2013 is
very special for Ray Wilson - it marks twenty years since the release of his
first studio album - “Swing Your Bag” with Guaranteed Pure. His show in theatre
entitled „20 years and
more” was prepared especially for this occasion and will also
include songs from his current live project Genesis Classic - “Not about us”,
“Follow you follow me”, “Mama”, but mainly tracks from Ray's solo career – “Tale
from a small town”, “First day of change”, “Another Day”, and others recorded
with Stiltskin – “Inside”, “Lemon Yellow Sun”, “Constantly Reminded” We can
also expect the material taken from his forthcoming solo album “Chasing
Rainbows”. Ray Wilson will perform with an ensemble consisting of a String
Quartet plus Piano, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Acoustic and Lead Guitars. The
show will be recorded and released on CD and DVD later this
year.

Ray Wilson, who according to Classic Rock Magazine is one of the greatest vocalists in Great Britain, is regarded as an exceptional songwriter, renowned across the world for his charismatic presence as an extraordinary entertainer. This native Scotsman founded his first professional band Guaranteed Pure with his brother Steve in the early nineties, releasing three studio albums. In 1994 he joined the Scottish band Stiltskin as their frontman. Their debut single “Inside” was an immediate sensation on the grunge scene reaching number one in many European countries. To this day “Inside” retains an undisputed leading position as an advertising hit (“Levi’s”). Thanks to the amazing success of Stiltskin, the musicians from Genesis noticed Ray Wilson and took him on after the resignation of Phil Collins. From 1996 to 1999 he was the singer/songwriter of the legendary pop group and during that time he recorded the fourth best-selling album in the band’s history – “Calling All Stations”. After the rock legends split up, Wilson got back in touch with his roots and released the album “Millionairhead” with Guaranteed Pure, with the songs being written by him and his brother Steve Wilson. Together with their new musical direction the name of the band was changed from Guaranteed Pure to CUT_. In order to promote the album the group appeared as a stadium support act on tour with the bands Scorpions and Westernhagen, and in 1999 they played in large arenas in Germany and neighboring countries. In 2001 Ray Wilson began his solo career at the world famous Edinburgh International Festival. After countless concerts in Europe, as well as in South and Central America, Wilson released his first solo album “Change” in 2003 and performed, as a special guest, on tour with Joe Jackson and Saga. In the next few years Ray Wilson went on the road with Dolores O’Riordan from the Cranberries as well as with Supertramp frontman Roger Hogdson. In August 2006 Ray Wilson and Stiltskin celebrated a spectacular return with their studio album “She”. Together with the new line-up they went on tour for the whole year. In addition, Wilson’s current live project Genesis Classic, brings together 12 musicians on European stages, involving musicians from Stilskin and the Berlin Symphony Ensemble. Violins and cellos add a lot to the sound of the numerous classic albums that Genesis created during their career. In September 2011 Ray Wilson & Stiltskin released their long-awaited studio album “Unfulfillment”. Ray has combined here the energy of rock music with lyrics of great depth and complex string arrangements. All the songs have been written by Ray Wilson, Uwe Metzler, and Peter Hoff, a number one producer from Stuttgart (Die Fantastischen Vier, Beth Hard, Lou Bega). The first single chosen to promote the album was “American Beauty”. Currently living in Poland, Ray is a founder of the Ray Wilson Foundation that works in Poznan. The aim of the Foundation is to activate and support people from the margins of society. In May 2012 the President of Poznan honored Ray Wilson with the title of an Ambassador of Poznan. His forthcoming new solo album entitled “Chaising Rainbows” will be released later this year. The special evening at the Theatre
will be enriched by two additional concerts. One of the Artists performing that
night will be Clive Nolan (Arena, Pendragon, Caamora) who, along with stellar
musicians, will perform his latest project “Alchemy”. The other one is a German
band RPWL and, as they announce, it will be the last complete performance of
"Beyond Man and Time" album in Europe.

I don't care what anybody says, I thought Calling All Stations was a fine album. I also enjoy Ray's solo work and his work with Stiltskin, so this should be good. ------------- I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you? |

Me too I agree that Calling All Stations was a fine album, but I've never heard any of his other works. But why would he perform songs from other Genesis albums? Seems out of place.

He did perform a bunch of non-CAS Genesis songs with them live. And he has kept a few of those songs, like Mama, in his live repertoire. If you're interested, Propaganda Man or The Next Best Thing are both good albums, as is the 2006 Stiltskin album.

I agree with the Doctor and lazland, CAS was a very good album. I also enjoy his solo albums and Stiltskin albums. ------------- A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!! |

Here's some footage from the DVD of Ray doing one of those non-CAS songs: He has also recently released a new solo album called 'Song For a Friend' (June 3, 2016), which includes this magnificent cover of Pink Floyd's 'High Hopes': The original plan was to release a double album called 'Backseat Drivers' this year. The concept behind Backseat Drivers was to have two separate styles on one album. Ray has written and produced a whole album's worth of material containing essentially acoustic tracks and another set of songs with full electric arrangements, and they are now being released as two separate albums. The first album, 'Song For A Friend', was released on 3rd June 2016 and contains 10 Tracks. This album has an acoustic atmosphere and reduced arrangements. Ray dedicated this album to a close friend, who died in 2015. The following tracks are the album: 1. Old Book On The Shelf 2. Over My Dead Body 3. Cold Light of Day 4. Song For A Friend 5. How Long Is Too Long 6. Not Long Till Springtime 7. Backseat Driving 8. Parallel Souls 9. Tried And Failed 10. High Hopes The following guest musicians appear on the album: - Uwe Metzler / guitars - Lawrie Macmillan / bass - Ali Ferguson / atmosphere guitars - Kool Lyczek / piano, mellotron, Hammond - Nir Z. / drums, track 5 - Marcin Kajper / tenox sax, track 9 - Steve Wilson / backing vocals - Mario Koszel / percussion - Peter Hoff / percussion loops The second 'rockier' album will be released later this year (most likely in October). It will be called 'Makes Me Think Of Home'. More information will be available in the forthcoming weeks. Here is a taster of all the tracks on 'Song For a Friend' This man has one of the best singing voices I have ever heard.
