What's your favourite song from the legendary album by Yes?
My vote goes to Gates, I think that'll probably win by a landslide, but we'll see.

I love Gates but it has that less than pleasing "soon" downer at the end. The other two are brilliant too. Sound Chaser. More concise and just brilliant.

Gate is great, but Sound Chaser is brilliant, it's just so damn infectious, so I voted for that.

Interesting to see - not only in this thread, I've read it before - that several people don't like Soon. Personally, I like it. Maybe the transition from Moraz' wonderful chords to Soon is not 100% smooth, but it's a nice ending of the song anyway. I'm not so fond of the cha-cha-cha ending of Sound Chaser myself. Yeah, tastes differ, I know.

Gates. It used to be Sound Chaser but I've gone off it over the last few years and never really got on with To Be Over.

Me too. Gates is the best by a mile but To Be Over is an overlooked gem, wonderful guitar playing.

Gates of Delirium by a mile, however I'd much rather have the Yesshows version.

Not only is "Gates" my favorite song from Relayer, it is my favorite Yes song, period.

Easy one. Gates is definitely in my top 5 Yes tunes, the rest is great but not on the level of Gates.

"Gates", obviously. "Soon" is probably my favorite section, but the whole thing is pretty good. I also like the keyboard intro to "To Be Over" and the vocal section of "Sound Chaser".
The whole album is pretty good, but it's one of those works where, if I'm in the wrong state of mind, will reduce me to a nervous wreck - To Our Children's Children's Children (The Moody Blues), Bryter Later (Nick Drake), and Red (King Crimson) have a similar effect on me.

I voted for Gates. That track really hit me when I got the album in (I think) 1978. I still love it, and I watched the YouTube video of them performing it at QPR the other night. That energy, by God, they were good.

Gates is one of the best prog tracks in the universe , no actually it is the best. I love the whole thing. Its sheer pure musical expression on a grand scale. I'm not sure it even has a structure.Genius summed up in 20 minutes.

Gates, easily, just love the whole of it, Soon included of course. However, I like even better the version on the live CD/Album "Yes Symphonic", they just made better what was already perfect, and the orchestra fits beautifully, just as if the song had been composed to have an orchestra in it.
I'm not really fond of the other two songs. To be over is kind of beautiful, but it's kind of too long for it's own good, I like much better Howe's later instrumental shortened versions (I have heard one played just with his guitar, and another where he has other backing musicians). And I just can't stand Sound Chaser, too chaotic, and I really hate the Cha Cha Cha. I find a bit better the version found on "The Word is Live", with vocals included... but it still has the Cha Cha Cha's.

Gates is the biggest and broadest song on the album, but To Be Over is my favorite from this album, it resonated the most with me.

I recently blasted Gates in my car and had an out of body experience lol---it reminded me of a Melody Maker review of the album, "art out of electronic orchestration" ---and "blissfully ecstatic music" and IMO much thanks has to go to Moraz as they never sounded like that after he left---

"Sound Chaser". They take so long to make one or two points on "Gates".
