When I was a kid around 9 or 10(I know) I used to listen to the local alternative rock stations that would play bands like Bush, Nirvana,Puddle of Mudd and Nickleback(yeah I know those post grunge bands are lame especially Bush and NicklebackLOL). Later, I was turned on to Heavy Metal bands like Rage Against The Machine(by my sisters) and Metallica(on my own), this soon evolved into other Classic Metal bands like Sabbath, Maiden, and Priest who have a prog sensibility, ever since I obsessed over Maiden's Seventh Son album I've been hooked onto Prog Rock or Prog Metal, I was always searching for that lost chord something not suitable for the radio and I found it in Rush when I heard the Spirit of Radio(although I heard it on the radio) at where I used to work I have never gone back to the radio, 4/4 is so boring to me and useless after a while that I want to explore weird time signatures like 9/8 6/4 7/4/  7/8 or 5/4LOLLOL. I love Prog from Rush,Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Tool, Opeth, Mastodon, Dream Theater, ELP, VDGG, GG, and many more nowadays I can't live without itHeart. Looking back there has always been a Prog sensibility in my musical tastesWinkWink

I never meant any harm to anyone, I honestly feel that I was coming across as too strong in my opinions and I'm sorry to those whom may I've offended. KC is not really my taste though

I don't think it was so much the opinions themselves, anyone is allowed to say they don't like King Crimson (calling them John Cage wannabes though is beyond a stretchLOL). It's mostly the way you came across, particularly in the prog polls section.

Also, it would help to learn what intentions people here are responding to you in (though I'm not sure how one learns that). Confused I say that because you tend to read peoples intentions wrong, like the jokes-of-sorts you've taken seriously so far in this thread.

Not being a smart ass or nothing, just a bit of advice. Smile

I guess you do take many posts too seriously. Whether they are intended seriously or as a joke, there's no need to react so strongly to them. And as a matter of fact, sometimes the way you write is very strong indeed, and it may get some reaction from others that you don't really want to get. I even have the impression that if somewone responded to you the exact same way that you have responded to some people there would be no end to the argument. However, indeed not liking King Crimson or whichever other beloved artist here is not enough to make yourself hated, but the way you express it might just as well do the trick. However, the important thing is that there is some new member around who loves prog and wants to talk about it and so on, so just keep on going.

I sincerely apologized to whomever I offended and thank you for letting me keep going. That's me as a person I tend to be very serious. Also, it's hard to see of anyone is being sarcastic or serious, it's an online forum so I can't really tell.

Thanks, Dellinger

Boy, if Sheavy was here, he would back me up that the following has actually happened:

There was this thread where I've made a comment or stated a claim, and Sheavy retorted with a simple "f$%k you". Naturally, I chuckled and wrote that he pretty much made my day. Then an admin or a collab asked Sheavy to apologize to me or something, but Sheavy noted that I got his humor.

Oh, lord ... what does it take to get American sarcasm.

Indeed, that's happened to me too. I do recognize members both by "name" and Avatar, but usually I pay more attention to the Avatar (though sometimes it is more by the name). However, when someone changes his Avatar it takes some time to relate it with the name. However, it is even worse when someone changes the Avatar AND the name (I think I remember it happening at least once).

I remember the incident Dayvenkirq is referring to.  In the context of the thread, Sheavy's "f&%k you" was very funny and it was obvious to all who were following the thread.  The admin just happened to pass through and saw it (or maybe it was reported? hmm), and dutifully took action.  But it was all cleared up in a matter of minutes.  I think it's pretty clear most of the time when it's meant as a joke.

Granted, it does take a while on the forum to truly get a "feel" for certain people.  I know Sheavy and knew he wouldn't really say that, so I knew it was a joke.  So it's a little harder when you're new.  Maybe it's not as obvious as I said after all.  In your example, though, I'm pretty sure everyone there saw the joke.
