I was messing around with 7/8 and I came up with this conceptual mixolydian folkish thing. I'm not taking it very serious or anything, but I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of folk this would be, or what it resembles most. As in: Irish folk, Slavic folk or West-European folk.

by the way: What you're hearing is Guitar Pro 6, but it should be imagined as acoustic guitar, keys and percussion.

Sounds very Gentle-Gianty to me ... in a way. It appears that the keys, the percussion, and the use of the 7/8 meter give the bit a kind of a jazzy flavor. As for the acoustic guitar work, it sounds too archetypal to be classified. It could be a basis for a number of things, but especially for Western-European folk (reminds me a bit of Pentangle). It could be British (or, less likely, Spanish) folk. That's what I would say from my personal experience.

Why would you want to classify it?
IMO it's still too simple an idea to get any classification, it will depend on how you develop it, which keyboard and percussion sounds you will use etc.

Thanks for the replies!

It's not that I want to classify it purely for the sake of classifying. I was just curious as to which kind of ethnic music this resembles the most, because in my mind it sounds like some kind of folk music. Thanks anyway!

Reminds a bit baroque dances, such as rondeau, gigue, passacaille or folie d'Espagne.
But also Dave Brubeck.

There you go, Marty. If you have a question about a style of a bit of music, ask lucas.

Thanks! Didn't figure this would remind of Baroque though, so that's fun to know. LOL
