I voted for National Health. Of Queues And Cures is a wonderful album. But their debut album is very good, too. I'd say Bruford (the band) made music that is strongly Canterbury influenced, too, but people always disagree with me on that one I also love some of the stuff made by Caravan, Hatfield, Gong and Robert Wyatt. Canterbury is a rich musical well... |

Soft Machine is my choice, maybe because they were the jazziest, and I'm also a jazz-lover. Plus, they made a groundbreaking album like THIRD ------------- "...I like the way the music goes...there's a few good guys who can play it right..." |

didnt vote as Canterbury basically SUCKS!
Although efforts with Robert Wyatt, Daevid Allen are of note! Soft Machine - Third Matching Mole - same Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom Daevid Allen - Good Morning Gong - You with a nod to Caravan - In the Land of the Pink and Gey National Health - Queues And Cures Khan - Space Shanty most of the rest of Canterbury is a bunch of noddling non descript junk and has NO universal appeal!

I voted for Matching Mole -- they were the most aggressive band of the whole Canterbury bunch. Anyway, I love all bands and soloists listed in this challenging poll. |

That was tough ... I chose Caravan over 8 other bands/artists I also really like (and I just don't know the rest well enough) ... on another day it would have been Hatfield And The North, with Khan also an outside bet ... ------------- "Death to Utopia! I love Hatfield! It's just that I love Nat. Health more. Maybe the Calyx (Canterbury) site will cheer you up. They once had a poll, and Caravan's In The Land Of Grey And Pink and Hatfield's Rotters' Club were voted as the very best Canterbury albums. Don't know if the poll's still there. |
